I was, as I posted yesterday, lost for words when I heard of the suspension of IA. Now that I’ve had time to look round I’ve found a few.

We are only suspending the IA and if my fingers and toes haven’t lied to me, the date by which we are promised a resolution to the dispute will arrive in time for the CWU to notify of further action if required without having to re-ballot the members.

Allan Leighton and Adam Crozier have had a taste of trying to outmanoeuvre a determined workforce with a determined union behind them and despite their claims of support and progress during the IA have had to admit (at least to themselves) that Royal Mail underestimated the commitment of it’s employees and their belief in their company as a public service.

This dispute was never “just about the moneyâ€

i think after we striked we deserve better than what we have,royal mail has gave us nothing and we have gave them everything . now because of this two week with out stiike action all them mail will be cleared up and we will be back to square one .

i dont think royal mail will be laughing at us far from it, the 1 day all out strikes maybe did'nt hit them hard but the rolling action did only 2 weeks of that and big bad al came to the meeting for the first time.
as regards the early starts the union will need all their diplomatic skill on that one but lets see what they come up with

This was a ministerial backed attempt to give the union a kick in the b#llocks and take it out of the equation as far as the future was concerned.
They thought the membership would fold after a couple of one dayers. then, with a consderably weakened union in thier pockets, full speed ahead with a buisness plan that suits no one except the treasury.

The PEC have so far played a canny game,lets hope they close the deal!

Absolutely - let's hope this situation has made all the people who "leave it to someone else" realise that they can have a say by using their vote and can never justify a complaint if they couldn't be bothered to use it. Every aspect of our democratic system has to be understood if it is to be used to effect change. Learn about the issues, the candidates and the options if you are to use a vote to make things happen. Every one of us has at times felt alone but we never were - we had thousands of other people out there who voted the same way - Big Daz said "it's important that we get a vote". When we do, just remember how important it is that you use it.

The end game is probably a workforce of about 100,000
A revised USO so meet this
Standardised hours, with a more sntadardised pay structure
Outsource almost all of the support services - payroll, people processes
Retain a small (500) HQ staff
Let areas run an almost autonomous profit and loss account
Approx. 40,000 more redundancies over approx. 3-5 yrs max.

2 competitor E2E delivery companies covering most of the urban and peri-urban areas.

How to prevent this happening:
Competitors decide that investing at least £100M with at least a 5 yr wait before returning profits is not attractive enough, and investing in the Far East/India will provide better returns, therefore creating an almost 100% RM delivery of mail in the UK
The government changing it's liberalisation of the postal market and it's view of what is core public service
New senior mgmt who have a different view

Changing pricing structures to allow RM to increase prices by anything upto 60% (bring inline with European players)

These are slightly drunken views from slightly afar, though the privatisation of BT is a good sign of where things are going.

Ok fella's, apparently the I/A's off. Not im my union, im a member of the provisional CWU an the fight never stops, i'm baiting strike breakers an screws daily, tying them up in conduct codes, plying on the pressure, refusing to work next to strike breakers (they stink an should be hosed down hourly in the yard), being difficult, argueing constantly an as a result the sick levels rocketing. It's great. Maybe if you look over your shoulder to the strike breakers that said this'll never work, you'll be as angry as me. F*k 'em, f*k 'em all, Never forgive neverforget.

Agree with you there. The strike breakers have put themselves out on a limb for the price of 4 days pay.
Wonder if they think it was worth it to become pariahs, now.
They will no doubt be happy to take any improvements that might come out of an agreement.
Treat them with the contempt they deserve. Hope they leave and go to a non-unionised workplace
and see how they are treated there.
