I got taken on with a 6 month contract which was then extended by another 3 months and that is where I currently am. Another guy I work with started on a 6 month contract, extended by 3 months and then extended by another 3 months and that is where he is now! I don't know how long they can just keep extending the temp contract but my work mate is approaching 1 year

i got took on a 3 month contract, Got another 3 months after that one and now I just been given a permemant contract (20 hours) and that is the same for all three of the newbies, who started at the same time as me.

Sorry some one has to start at the bottom. Temporary contract is a 3 month rolling with your trial period being for six months but can be extended for one reason or another up to 24 months. After 24 months anyone on a temporary contract must be either be rid of or offered a permanent contract. My advice for anyone in this position is to seek UCW advice and those over 24 months should have default permanent contracts.

It's not that simple...the legal position is 4 years...the Royal Mail/CWU position at the moment is...

Royal Mail has agreed that individuals who, at 24th June 2010 had been in employment for more than 2 years and whose fixed term contract had expired will be offered a permanent contract. Conversions to permanent contracts will be phased in, starting in those offices where revisions are imminent.

There is no default position.

i dont actually work 20 hours lol .. with overtime its nearly always 40 plus - always walks to cover and i virtually prep my own walk every day.
