Half staff is plenty insist Mail bosses

OFFHAND Royal Mail have told an MP Irvine Post Office only needs to staff half of its eight counters to provide a satisfactory service.

They say they only need to bring a fifth counter into play when the under-pressure PO gets really busy.

The latest response has infuriated Central Ayrshire MP Brian Donohoe.

He is demanding further answers from Royal Mail in the wake of a deluge of complaints about the service at Irvine.

This week he said: “This latest excuse simply doesn’t hold water.

“Why provide eight counters then say only four are needed?

“Was this a ruse to con the public into accepting closure of the main High Street Office.”

Mr Donohoe said he was still unsatisfied with the excuses from Royal Mail.

He went on: “This latest response claims that although the branch does have eight counters, Royal Mail’s data shows it only needs to operate four at any one time and five when it is extremely busy.

“This makes no sense to me whatsoever.

“Given waiting times were more than 10 minutes in the run-up to Christmas and there were claims that there were only ever three counters staffed, there are obviously serious management problems at Irvine.”

The original excuse blamed the freezing weather and closure of branch offices leading to increased custom for High Street.

He added: “Using the weather excuse was just an easy option. As far as I am aware this Post Office always seems to under-perform at Christmas.

“The many complaints I receive every year substantiates that, but this Post Office just never seems to see the connection between the lack of staffed counters and lengthy queues.

“It is my opinion the High Street office should never have closed and I always felt it would turn out to be a big mistake.”

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
