An Edinburgh man has been crowned Scotland's first chili-eating champion after successfully scoffing the hottest chili pepper in the world.
Postman Ross Heatherill, 20, was crowned the chili king after battling his way through nine rounds of tongue torture - despite being declared the winner after the sixth.
The event, held to raise money for Radio Forth's Cash for Kids charity, was organised by Donald Mavor.
Champion chomper Ross muched his way through several chilis, including the Dorset Naga - a Scotch Bonnet/Habanero cross chili which is said to be the hottest in the world.
Mr Mavor, the head chef and owner of Edinburgh restaurant Tex Mex 2, said the Dorset Naga chili is "up to 1.5m Scoville - which is just very, very hot - painfully so!"
"I've tried one myself and I have to say I couldn't speak for about 20 minutes, so he's done remarkably well."
The Scoville scale is a measurement of the heat of a chili pepper, which indicates the amount of capsaicin present.
Along with bragging rights Mr Heatherill won a trophy, dinner for two, some hot chili sauce and a bottle of tequila.
