It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

SOME WORDSMITH WROTE IN AS WELL

In response to the anonymous, ill-informed reader who trotted a liturgy of half truths concerning the ongoing postal dispute, I feel compelled to illuminate the situation.
Firstly the strike is not about the pay rise, it is understandably 'adequate' given Royal Mail's stated financial position.
It is about a whole raft of job cuts, and a set of changing work practices which not only results in our pay being cut after two years grace, but an ongoing doctrine of putting profits before the customer.
As regards us all finishing at 11.30am, this is a blatant broad brush criticism, as the majority finish on time.
Royal Mail instituted the current work schedule of 'job and finish' which encourages personnel to be as efficient as possible.
Given the variables of topography, age demographics and strength levels its hardly a great surprise that some postmen are faster than others.
Some rounds regularly result in daily overtime, with postman working well over their allotted eight hours work time.
As regards accommodation, not all of us are career postman.
There are a sprinkling of ex technical and professional employees who by dint of hard work and endeavour have accrued a reasonable standard of living.
This comment I can only attribute to jealously and ignorance - as if the lowly postie should not live in anything other than a rented two-up-two-down.
The public who feel compelled to write such fatuous letters to local newspapers, would be better employed writing to the mail regulator who hamstrings Royal Mail, and cherry picks our most profitable businesses, only to give them away to new incoming competitors.
Do not think that these new companies want to deliver your mail to the back of beyond, why? Because there is no profit in it.
That's what motivates this whole dispute, profit, not the customer.

Sorry to butt in on this thread, just wanted to add my two-cents........
I'm starting as a newbie fairly soon. I've had all the comments - "Postie, what the Hell you want to do that for? Crap pay, slogging it out all weathers, blah blah blah...." Then they'll inevitably go off on one about their own postie, "he/she's such a lazy bugger, never gets my mail to me on time, my mate keeps seeing him/her nattering away to whats-her-face when they should be getting on with the job..." For Christ's sake, you'd think every Tom, Dick and Harry had the worst postie on the planet, the way they go off on one.
Thing is...I'm not in this for the pay benefits (which is a bloody good thing, let's be honest.) I'm in it coz I'm not prepared to be one of those lazy c***s - who, incidentally, are the ones giving posties grief - who sit smugly on his/her fat ass all day in a nice office job. Yeah, their paypacket might be Hell loads' bigger'n mine; they might be sat comfy and warm in mid-Winter, or nicely air-con'd in Summer heatwaves. But at the end of the day, I'm going for a job that I might actually believe in, one that keeps me fit, and (I'm only guessing here) it's gotta be pretty hard to get bored when you're concentrating on a) staying alive on busy roads on your bike b) delivering to the right addy's c) remembering to be polite and friendly to all and sundry.
I've not even started yet, but I've seen what our posties in town go through. And, having read plenty of posts on this site, I'm getting an even more graphic insight into just what I'm letting myself in for. But I'm not put off. I might be a wet-behind-the-ears berk, and a newbie to boot, but I'll bet I've got more drive and oomph than those smug tossers in their cushy little jobs.
Easy job? Yeah, and my Mom's Shilpa f***ing Shetty.
