Other than using a van instead of their own cars we have a vast majority of posties working no different from how they did pre revision , massive bags , not teaking breaks and coming in early , the trolleys are scattered all about the office only used for the first week .
At our office It's a question of what you want to do , work how we used to , improvise and try a make the best of a poor situation or stick to the 2010 agreement full stop . I'm in the second option , I never go in early , never carry heavy bags and do use the trolley when needs be but if we are allowed out early I'm out . So basically it's a free for all .

Re: delivery methods
Have heard members say they would rather be sacked than use a trolley after a DM revision.
And months later no trolley used and guess what
[/quote]
My P&l buddy was off sick , the postie who was covering would not use a trolley full stop . On one of the loops the bag was huge off she went lurching to one side
. I would have split the street even in the pre revision days , I just can't get my head around why anybody would want to carry that weight . RM will turn a blind eye to it because it saves them money . In my various jobs I've worked with people who won't wear ear protection , eye protection , safety helmuts etc etc
. I can't get my head around why a lot of posties won't where their high vis vests , it's so light you can't tell your wearing it
.

Goodness me just do the job within Royal Mail spec and within the law and only work your hours, thers nothing they can do, don't let the job get to you and keep calm, don't let managers try and bully you (can't do that if they do you have the numbers to ring, if you think it's a health and safety issue call the H&E up and tell them to come down to your office and have a chat), And please don't take out overweight bags it's for your own good don't cut corners because if someone complain they will try and get you and give you warnings so they can dismiss you Lets see everyone go home safely every day
And the main thing is don't work for nothing like some of the fools i work with.
I now that the person who's doing my duty this week (Holiday

Re: delivery methods
I'm ok with the job and I'm calm ( most of the time ) and my p&l partner is to ( unless it's p*ssing down ) . No way will me and my permanent partner carry heavy weight but it's the ones who stand in who have a strange idea how the job should be done . I need to direct them to this forum because for me it's been invaluable .Bongos wrote:Goodness me just do the job within Royal Mail spec and within the law and only work your hours, thers nothing they can do, don't let the job get to you and keep calm, don't let managers try and bully you (can't do that if they do you have the numbers to ring, if you think it's a health and safety issue call the H&E up and tell them to come down to your office and have a chat), And please don't take out overweight bags it's for your own good don't cut corners because if someone complain they will try and get you and give you warnings so they can dismiss you Lets see everyone go home safely every day

Re: delivery methods
Nearly everytime after my day off the trolleys have been removed from the van , we just put them back again . The trolleys are not hard to find because they are scattered all over the office unused .
We have a full office repick in the next couple of months and if I get with a weight carrying numpty they are going to be long days for them . After each loop he or she will just have to wait back at the van or if they want they can tackle part of my loop , which I don't mind .
Please , please let me have a P&l partner like the one I have now
. We only use the trolleys on heavy days ( 16 loops for the 2 duties ) . On medium to light days we move from street to street parking in the middle and spliting that streets mail into 2 so creating up to 30 mini loops . So off we go usually with one bundle in your arm , at the most 1.5 bundles . No bag and no trolley , brilliant . The first one back to the van deals with the larger packets for that street , then off we go to the next .

Re: delivery methods
What is the reason for your decision to create your own loops / delivery system? Does it take weight off your shoulder?…No; that has already been done by providing you with a LWT.skull wrote:We only use the trolleys on heavy days ( 16 loops for the 2 duties ) . It's not your job to design a delivery system for your duty, a planner with an arsenal of tried and tested tools is responsible for that and is paid well enough for it.
The only reason I can think of off the top of my head why you would change the system is to perform more work within the allotted time or to complete all work before your finish time. What this actually means is that you would end up over-performing, which is detrimental behaviour. Persons covering the duty will not be able to match your over-performance without also working to an alternative delivery method. Those following the 'correct system' will in traditional RM fashion be subject to performance testing and bullying in order to strive towards your level.
Think about it, do the job according to how it was designed for you, work to your time, take your meal relief and go home.

Re: delivery methods
I don't think we are over-performing because the time gained not using the trolley is lost by how many times we have to move the van , Infact doing it in mini loops might take a little longer . I don't think the trolleys will be totally health problem free , the slight twist in the shoulders when pulling them , lifting them in and out of the van and hygiene when all sorts of sh*t is spread all over the inside of the van . Like I said we do use the trolleys on heavy days but when it's medium to light we split the loops into mini loops , up to a bundle and half each and away we go . Remember the occasional very light day that's what it's like but obviously there is no early finish any more , we work right to the death and beyond .Himaggen wrote:The only reason I can think of off the top of my head why you would change the system is to perform more work within the allotted time or to complete all work before your finish time. Just to add we haven't changed the number of loops on the frame we create the mini loops when where out of the office .

Does it take weight off your shoulder by not using the trolley ? ..... Yes .
When a wagon is pulling a trailer is it pulling weight by any chance .

Without going into the complexities of mechanics and ergonomics, I'll simply say that you are wrong. No amount of excuses can justify what you are doing. The facts are simple, you are paid to deliver mail to an agreed system provided for you by your employer. Any deviation from that system can only be detrimental to you or your colleagues now or in the future.skull wrote:by Himaggen » Mon Feb 07, 2011 9:22 pm

Because two unskilled posties have found an easier ( not quicker ) way of working the p&l method instead of what's been put in front of us . I can't believe we are the only posties working like this , if we are and it catches on me and my partner want to be credited .
Thousands and thousands of years ago do you think people were told to change their square wheels for round ones or do you think they thought to themselves that looks like a good idea lets do it . Which category do you fall into having to be told or thinking it out for yourself ? .
The only reason I think we might be told not to work how I have explained is because we probably use 2-4 miles more worth of diesel .

No you have made my mind up , you would still have square wheels .Himaggen wrote:Without going into the complexities of mechanics and ergonomics, I'll simply say that you are wrong. So if you only have one bundle you would still get the trolley out of the van and tow it empty around your loop , because that's the way you have been told to do it . Come on get real .
So we are going to get reprimanded for not parking where we should e.g the start of the loop .Come on get real . So when we are carrying a bundle and a half we will be reprimanded for not having an empty trolley in tow . Come on get real .
I don't know if you have done p&l but with specials , large tracked and large packets you can end up anywhere and in any order on the two duties . It's virtually impossible for anybody to monitor . So come on get real .

Improving P and L has got to be a good thing has it not?
OPGs fine tuning a new work system and making it better is something I find very credible.

Re: delivery methods
If we were cutting corners I could see where Himaggen was coming from but all we have done is fine tuned it . We are trying to make the best out of a bad situation ( regarding work load )and working more helthier than the agreed method .We will never know if it's faster or slower because every day is so different . It's even better than how we worked pre rivision but sadly with a greater work load .Big Daz wrote:Improving P and L has got to be a good thing has it not?

New starters must read these forums and wonder what all the fuss is about . All RM have done is ask us to work the hours we are paid for . Posties need to start using their own intellegance to make the job work as easy as possible . As long as we are not putting our health at risk or cutting corners I can't see the problem .
