i can easily crossout 10 pounds worth of stamps every day do you do the same?

Seriously you've hit the nail on the head with my NUMBER 1 Royal Mail peeve. Every day I cancel around £20 with quick swipes of my biro on IPS. Does RM cancel ANY stamps at Christmas???? I did over £100(??) inc. packets (a day) over that time and yet now I'm seeing (what looks like) loads of un-cancelled stamps re-stuck to other items of mail.

Customers think RM is as a thick as a plank when their able to reuse these stamps.... come on people lets at least get paid for taking all this sh1t out!

Thats quite shocking... why aren't RM shutting these people down and prosecuting(?) them???? theres one on their shelling stamps that have been cut off envelopes!

Well at least RM seem to be trying to do SOMETHING about it....

"They are the new type which are harder to remove from the paper".... I'd say any stamps on paper that have be 're-attached' are automatically invalid and as such will be surcharged.

It is 'legal' to sell unfranked stamps on the basis that stamp collectors want them... whats illegal is to REUSE the stamp. I guess its all about proving it really.

Anyone get the feeling I hate this sort of stuff!

I get to know that anther postie somewhere else isn't having to deliver a packet that hasn't been paid for also if everyone did it the money totted up over the year would make it that much harder for RM to deny us a pay rise. I hear you and I feel your pain RM treat us like shite 99.9% of the time but don't give them an excuse not to give us a pay rise.

The guy who trained me up told me to cancel out unfranked stamps but only by crossing over the 4 edges with ink and not across the image of the queen. Apparently defacing the queen is illegal and an act of treason?

Probably 99% of the time is down to late shifts at MCs all round the country, when it looks like they'll be in the s**t for getting everything out on the dispatch, they're probably being told to just sort them and not cancel the stamps to make sure they get cleared on time.

With regard to the newer stamps (not the oversized looking stamp like Horizon labels) there was either a thread here or a comments bit on a newspaper website where someone said it was just as easy to re-use the newer stamps as the old ones.

You need a stamp...you buy a book of six,throw the other five in a drawer then the next time you need a stamp you're fecked if you can remember where you put them so...you buy a book of six etc,etc.
Money for nothing....

For me this is where RM should be looking for savings i.e. EVERY item of mail is paid for AND at the correct postage price, ALL stamps are cancelled... I agree with the MC not cancelling stamps coz of time issues as I've seen in many times. Yes, it would cost money for a dedicated team of people to do this job BUT its times like these when RM should be looking past the initial cost and see the ultimate benefit.

I hear you but just cos we might make money where people lose unused stamps doesn't mean we should give others a free service. Besides how many times do you see a stamp on a letter/packet marked 1st yet is about 20 years old!
