Rethink demanded for Post Office

JULIAN Brazier, has written to the boss of the Post Office demanding a rethink on plans to close Whitstable sorting office.

The MP for Whitstable and Canterbury has voiced his "deep concern" to managing director David Smith.

He said: "The proposal to close the sorting office at Whitstable will not only mean local redundancies but signals the end of deliveries by bicycle.

"If the Whitstable office is to close, the mail will have to be carried to and from Canterbury by van, rather than bicycle, which seems a retrogressive step at a time when you are publicly committed to greener options.

"In addition, when someone is not at home to receive a parcel, the addressee will have to travel all the way to Canterbury to collect it.

"Residents are deeply concerned about this, especially elderly people without cars. "

Bay MP Roger Gale is also fighting to keep the Herne Bay sorting office open which is also threatened with closure.

What has the closure of the Delivery Office got to do with the Post Office?
If our legislaters cant't understand the setup of Royal Mail Group and its constituent parts and their resposibilities, what faith can we have in their decsion making about our furtures?
