Now that both sides have got some `breathing space`and an issue that really does need to be raised by `our side` concerns the fact that the competition will always have an unfair advantage over Royal Mail, because they have been allowed to CHERRY PICK our most profitable business!

Now it is time for Big AL&C as part of this new `PERIOD OF TALKS`to listen to what we/union have said all along, ANY BUSINESS WE HANDLE FOR THE COMPETITION HAS TO ALLOW US TO MAKE A PROFIT! Now if they can not grasp this simple business fact we are going to be back to the `start` again. This means that if they want a fight, it has to be with there own employer the Government.

Another issue concerns the need for `modernisation`( I now hate that word) we for sure know that some jobs will have to go with modern sorting equipment, but if/when some people go they should get decent money for this, if it has to come out of the `big budget` from Government so be it!

These other people from `Post Com etc` have to be told by BIG Al & C that bringing down costs does not always equate to `SERVICE`AND THEY AND THE UNION/US have as part of these talks to make this clear! I know that many of us have said this on other `threads` before but this issue still remains a crucial part of the `new talks`.

After the initial shock of RM signing the joint statement, and therefore the suspension of the current I.A, I hope everyone has now had time to reflect..... I personally wish to thank all my colleagues for the FULL support during the periods of I.A and hopefully if needed they will be there again after Sept 4th if a good deal is not struck. We did not have one single strike breaker in our office and we all deserve a good deal at the end of this, I for one would be prepared to be back on the picket line come September if the outcome is not good.

At 6pm on the 9/8/7, all union members were allowed a meeting in the centre of the our office mainly because allot of the fellas refused to stop the strike unless told by a senior union rep (manager had put stuff on our union board before). After asking a few of the cheeky strike breakers to piss off, i looked around to see my brothers an sisters in the circle an realised how proud i felt, then after our rep told us that the I/A got the twats back to the table, we clapped heartily. The strike breakers an screws musta been shaking in there boots.
The I/A may be over but now the witch hunt begins.

Like all others I would like to thank all my collegues at Macclesfield DO in supporting the I/A we have undertaken especially the hardcore people that turned out on the picket lines everyday from early on, a big thanks to Ray and Thommo for their support in turning out at 0400hrs each day with myself, THANKS

One problem that a few of my members have brought up in regard to the end or suspension of strikes is that our CWU HQ put out a statement saying that the new discussions will be confidential, sorry but this is something that I do not agree with and also a number of my collegues also dont agree with this. It is our future and doing things behind closed doors only makes people think of dodgy deals been done, remember we are the ones who have lost money not those at HQ so why cannot we the members be told of what is being said on our behalfs, it stinks a little when you hear that nothing will be told to anyone.

Dont get me wrong I am glad that we have got the scum to sit down and talk but I do not trust them at all and neither do my collegues and I am sure that if we ask again to take I/A then I feel that it will be a bit harder to get staff out again

I hope we are not the only ones that feel this way

CWU has made the right decision to withdraw IA imo, after all they had promised to all along if rm agreed to talk . Also lets not forget the IA wasnt particularly good for us in the long run anyway imo (although i was supporting it fully) as the cost coming from fines etc over delayed DSA mail and such is gonna run into the 100's of millions already, the regulator has delayed the fines but not abolished them so rm will have to pay after IA has stopped. Lets just hope a good deal comes out of these talks cos IA aint no good for anyone really. Hopefully the review on damage to RM from competition will go ahead in parliament and maybe the rules changed to allow us a level playing field to knock all these DSA kids out :)

let me think, RM makes a profit and it goes to the govt. Does anyone know where the hundreds of millions in fines ends up?

it ends up in the competitors hands as far as im aware mate!!!! as they are the ones we have failed! Either way werever it went it certainly isnt going into OUR pockets is my point

Wasnt it Leighton who said 'theres no more money'( whos awarded himself over a million in bonuses and who also brags about being mr no bullshit .Well Leighton take a look at where your bully boy tactics have got you ...dragged to the table and I expect your city reputation ,gained I might add by bullying checkout assistants at Asda , on the line .Lets see how you can face off a Union you believed was weak after your enforced pay deal last year ...I think youve run out of room to move,after 4 September mail volumes rise and just when you believed in a drift back to work and therefore crushing the Union ,what you really got was just about every postman moaning that the strikes were called off ! irony or what ....I hope the Union fry him, and show no sympaythy,just as he hasnt ....I say it had better be good or hey rolling strikes from 4 September (it paralyses them )...bring it on Leighton,just remember your no bullshit bloke ...yer right . My thoughts nearly 2 months ago,today...i feel for everyone that has put too much faith in the union.
however this situation could not carry on,and it's right and sensible that everyone takes a step back,as a non-union
member i haven't attended any picket lines,but more importantly i haven't crossed any.
People should be proud,they have stood together and bought the union a seat at the negotiating table,which quite
simply several months ago they didn't have.
Remember royal mail were looking to challenge the very essence of the union,it's solidarity,it's members,they
were imposing change without consultation.
It's not about royal mail winning,or the cwu winning,it's about understanding,and beating the competition!
i hope ultimately it's us,it's people who are the real winners.

I have just been reading some of the replies to the strike action being called off. I can't believe that our top table would have allowed themselfs to be pulled on to a sucker punch like this, but if they have then we should put a vote of no confidence in and get some real reps that realy knows whats going on in our business and mot just sitting in a office in Wimbledon.
