it really depends on the revisions and whats happening with them. at the moment msot are suspended.

30 hr /3 month contract you will be s**t on ,shafted and abused from pillar to post ,day in day out. You won't know the score and will have the ever present carrot of a permanent contract dangled and the more ominous threat of non renewal thrust in your face. Are you likely to raise questions or challenge instructions ? Not right is it?

Its difficult to answer that question without knowing the office (don’t post it) and the type of person you are including your current fitness level.

Many offices are going through changes which include the reduction of staff but this is mostly by long term members taking redundancy and at the moment no one is being sacked. Part timers in my office are being kept on as the older guys leave and I can see a couple being asked to increase their hours to make up the short fall.

As far as liking the job it’s a bit like marmite as some love the working outdoors and some really hate it. It will be tough physically for the first month and expect to suffer and plan for the odd blister and muscle cramps in the evening (depending on your age of course). Wear 2 pairs of light cotton socks and get some decent walking shoes straight away and break them in at home until you get Royal Mail issue. Most trainers wont cut it.

Its not a bad time to join weather wise as the spring is coming and that’s prob the best time of year to be on the streets with the fresh mornings and warmer afternoons. Just remeber it’s a lot of walking so unless you are a young 20’s fitness freak allow plenty of rest time after work certainly for the first few weeks. Also I would avoid being tempted to take on extra walking work as overtime for a while until your fitness improves.

Saying all that if your 20 years old and fit as a fiddle you will be fine.

Funny in it all these part time jobs,the short fall in wages is made up by the government in tax credits,so the big boys get more profit and the tax payer pays.
Last news story i saw 25% of Britains workforce are part time.So that's rising and rising.

I think I'm correct in saying they cannot just keep giving you 3 months contracts, they have to say Yea or Nea
after 6 months, (mind you most in here will have had enough by then and f00ked off!!!)

That IS the Walmart scenario. In America there was some sort of hullabaloo about that very thing. They kept people on short time contracts and the state made up the difference in welfare payments..............there was at least one state that refused to allow Walmart to open stores.

I got taken on with a 6 month contract which was then extended by another 3 months and that is where I currently am. Another guy I work with started on a 6 month contract, extended by 3 months and then extended by another 3 months and that is where he is now! I don't know how long they can just keep extending the temp contract but my work mate is approaching 1 year

I think it's 4 years thats the figure I often see on here,don't know if that's for temp contract or what though.It's a pain in the rear im into a years service all with 3 month contracts doesn't look like changing either.I personally can't stick it gives you no security even though in the likelyhood (?) i'll be kept on for years.For example excuse me Mr bank manager can I have a loan? Yeah what's your employment status? 3 month contract for 25 hours-even though I do 45 hours and have been here for 2 years,you aint got a chance.
