The answer to this one is to invite them out with you to see if you are doing the job ok. :Applause :Applause :Applause
If you stick to Royal Mails spec and do the job with in the law (No Problem) :dance :dance :dance
If they decline the offer just say you will be bring the mail back again until they agree to come out with you :nana :nana :nana

I have been called a liar a few times and asked why unable to deliver on time (In one ear and out the other never did take me up on my invitition of joining me they just said make sure you make an apperance in every road so the customer can see you are about) :no no :no no :no no
I done this only for both doms to say can't go out due to medical reasons

There is no unity in the CWU. Everybody is out to look after themselves. You need a return to proper union power. All the members say that they're gonna stick together and never, ever do. Weak leadership, locally and especially nationally. :wave :dcfo
Perhaps we should have a UNion based on local rather than national control. It would turn the CwU on its head but local members would need to be more active.

This unfortunately is the truth. My office is around a 50/50 split for those in and those out of the union. Also the on-site reps are renowned for being pretty rubbish. Attracting new members is hard enough anyway, particularly when a lot of the younger workers have no idea of what the unions used to protect us from in days past, but when you get union reps with no teeth who let the management steamroll things through you can understand why they don't want to join up.

The biggest pile of hypocrisy I saw was when the union were pushing for people to stop using their own cars and the union reps were filling their cars up with mail everyday and then pouching off and going home as soon as they were done.

How can you even think about joining an organisation that blatantly shows that it's reps don't take things seriously?

Personally I wouldn't be without it, and I use a div rep if ever I need one, but if we want things to improve, we need to empower the union by having strong reps, and a reason for all those that aren't members to join.

I remember 25 years ago when I was a member of NUIW a union now that has been integrated with I believe MSF, we had a regular once a month meeting as a general get together and to thrash out underlying problems and agree a united way forward. The only way of achieving local unity is to have regular meetings with the local representative present, and away from the prying eyes of RM management. This is where everyone can have their say and it is here that the majority vote will dictate to the local rep who will then have to discuss decisions with local management. A local rep cannot then take it on himself to judge the mood of members and make decision without a vote. If the executive were serious they would be implementing local meetings as an absolute must if we are to retain any kind of power within Royal Mail.
