Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
The question is,natural wastage in the business,a bit of EVR (That's serious money can we afford it)here and there,is that enough numbers to drop the numbers down?
Then of course you have the,"well we have too many staff here since the cuts,i'm going to shove the surplus here there and everywhere".
But don't worry senior bods (i'm one of them btw) you'll be ok.
FFS!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
Surely all of this is moot point since the blueprint ( E.U. postal services directive) makes it quite clear that the universal service obligation is for five business days per week. And Saturday is not one of 'em.
The governments of the last 40 years have ceceeded their responsibility to the E.U. and have only to follow the directives or pay the fines for non compliance.
This is not the work of any recent or present British government, They may discuss it and make a pretence of legislating but the deal is done, since 1993 at least. Saturdays are for toast and Royal Mail WILL be privatised by 2013.
Thats My take on it but I hope I am wrong.

Saturday is unlikely to ever go - Just look at Jersey - they are thinking of going to a 5 day service - Tuesday to Saturday60091 wrote:when will sat go 2011/12/13 if ever, i can't wait myself! i don't think i'm alone

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
Im all for Saturdays off. This bullshit about protecting full time jobs gets right on my wick. (Full time jobs that are massive ) If we are going to work a five hour delivery make it six hours and have saturday off.
The only people in my DO that get every Saturday off are these Union men that are fighting to keep (full time jobs) and fulltime release.

I'm sorry that it's getting on your wick but up here we are looking at 50-60 people applying for PT jobs as there is no FT.
They are also having to sign a form stating that if the weekend payment per hours is cut that they cannot challenge it.
The employer is king at the moment and the out of work peasants are having to work with crap T&C if they are lucky enough to get a job
As a colleague said this morning - It's time for a revolution.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.
The time has come for union.

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
Saturday is a joke, if there was mail worth delivering you would feel better, but most of it is bank/credit card/tesco, DSA stuff that is so important most of it goes in the bin, all the firms are shut, so why not have a rota, 2-3 schedules just to deliver the Specials that are Saturday guaranteed, even with those though the buggers go out shopping so you end up bringing it back anyway.
I've had SG's to deliver to firms I know are shut, I know there will be no-one there, but I still have to take them for a ride.
