They wouldn't waste money painting them a different colour, just boosting revenue by puting advertising slogans on them and making them as unsightly as phone boxes are now.
Redesigning them or dropping 'ER' would only be for new ones, not that there would be many of them.
The real issue though, and one unsurprisingly overlooked by the Daily Mail, is how many loss making boxes, especially in rural areas, would be taken out of use as a new owner would have little interest in loss making stamped mail.
And those with a better memory than me will probably be able to remind you that in the 1930s the only problems the Daily Mail would have had with Hitler invading Britain would have been King George's head not appearing on our stamps and post boxes being painted a colour other than red.

If we are sold to another company then all the rights, patents, licenses, copyrights etc all form part of the process so the Royal Mail Red will still stay, in fact it will have a commercial value to whoever takes over.

Brands are not always as valuable as you think...Remember ICI?...massive company it was...30,000 staff..£5Billion turnover...listed on the stock market...gone. ...eaten by the Dutch...brand and all.

Syngenta - one of the biggest employers in Huddersfield when they were ICI - 3 generations of my family were employed by them.
