Initially i was pretty angry that IA had been suspended, but the union had been calling for talks with the promise IA would be suspended so they had to honour that. This MAY be a ploy by RM to clear the backlog, but remember you only have to work your 318 - not kill yourself.Getting to the talking stage is a climb down by RM - BIG TIME. How that " modernisation mantra" got on my nerves. Leighton and Crozier are back at the table and they will be hurting
.Whatever comes of the talks we know what we achieved with the rolling action at the LIGHTEST time of the year. Come September the s**t can and will if neccesary hit the fan, and the two clowns now know that. This can only happen if US the union remain strong. Remember the original offer was ZERO. RM are on the back foot and we should be proud with what we have done to this point, take a breather, regroup and then be prepared if necessary to go again. Whats a couple of weeks pay put against your whole future of a job that does, at the moment, enjoy imo great terms and conditions.

The truth is that we always offered to call off the strikes if they agreed to negotiate. It really is the only option –
Then that's their own f***ing fault - why say that in the first place?
The only good thing I can see happening now:
- extension of working to the 318 if that's at all possible.
more unoffical action where necessary
using the three week lull to make contact with other public sector workers
Local government workers just voted no to a 2% deal so might come out soon. Making strong links on a local level (i.e. outside the national and branch union structures - just face to face meetings and get people on here) could help that develop positively should things start up again.
Looks like my work might come out over this after all (UCU), just hope you're still going by the time that happens otherwise we're really all f****d.
Maybe we need some new ones of these with Ward and Hayes ready just in case :lfo :cfo

I have to admit this has come as a surprise, I know the feeling is that the IA should be kept up <and I agree we should> But we are caught out with the promise to return to normal if meaningful negotiations are taking place. I do feel a tad uneasy about it as it does feel similar to when johnson and co sold us out. But I think the fact that the whole thing is behind close doors with a ban on any thing going to the media might be something the Managment have called for to stop them looking like they're panicking <which if looking at our frontline managers is something to behold as they rush around without a blooming clue>
As has been said we can still keep pressure up. By doing our jobs properly, I was asked by my manager to stand on a packet frame today and keep an eye on the agency staff they had put on there <mis>sorting. I simply replied I would rather not as training staff isn't proper to my grade. She backed off then, and then went about running around like a blue a**ed fly and showing just how good a manager she is
She asked us to take our break at the end we said no we'd like to have our normal dinner. Our mail centre is in a right state, even with agency staff they cannot clear the back log of over a week. If we withdraw our good will <which in all honesty is what gets stuff out of the dely offices and through front doors> we can keep this up for a good while and keep the pressure on them....The Union won't...CAN'T sell us out ,not again, enough mistakes have been made by the top bods often enough to learn from them...I hope this is the case this time and we actually get a deal worth accepting and aren't just rolling over.....Needless to say if the IA starts again I'll be there on the picket line. Fingers crossed everyone

:lfo :cfo The two numpties are on the way out,Leighton came in as the man to sort out Royal Mail i.e Break the union and turn us into a version of Asda, well he grabbed a f@cking tiger by the tail when he took this bunch of men and women on,we made a stand against the prevalling wisdom of the day,'strikes dont win, posties are dinosaurs, you wont have a job in ten years time(remember that one)'
We showed that ordinary men and women can change things,we dont have to accept their lies.I'm so f@cking proud of us all who stood by our union Take a bow

And in the old Northern Soul motto 'Keep The Faith'

Worst thing the union could have done was to call off action.Me and mates fuming, all the hard work and keeping pressure on the jelly fish and now they cancel action when the two top looters of post office funds come to the table.Need deals to be struck before agreeing to anything with these deceitful clowns.

I agree CATCH second rate tacticians , they have handed the initiative to RM, all momentum lost for castles in the air. How much harder to pick yourself up and start again specially if youre lions led by donkeys.
As for 'no talks under duress', what better time? and i'm under duress every day.[Duress- Tommo]

I fourth that. Best post on here for a long while.bigsharkboy wrote:i third thatdvbuk55 wrote:I second that.J wrote:bristolchris wrote:Whoa everybody, lets just stand back a second. A lot must of happened over the last few days of which we know little of yet. Lets consider a few things.
1. What has brought the 2 sides to `talks` is the fact that we all stood TOGETHER!! ( only a small % did not)) it was this collective togetherness that brought little and large to the table! Remember they did not want to NEGOTIATE ANYTHING!. They wanted to impose everything!
2. In my Opinion added to us all sticking together, was the Fact that the Union listened to us and after the the 1st two strikes, which I belived acheived Nothing!
and changed to TACTICS which were and will ALLOW us if necessary to Win this dispute, IF WE NEED TO `START` AGAIN. So, if we discount the 1st two days (tough I know) what brought Uncle Al up short, were just 2 days of rolling action. This coupled with the `Withdrawal of good will` ( call it what you like) AND WHICH HAS MADE THE DOMS LIFE`S HELL (BLOODY GOOD JOB) has I believe got the Message over to AL &C THAT WE WILL NOT BE `WALKED OVER`.
3.The only other time that Al has come to the table was when there was the `Unofficial Action of `last time`
4. I THINK THIS HAS AGAIN BEEN ONE OF THE FEW OCCASSIONS IN HIS BUSINESS `LIFE` when he has not been able to bully his way to want he wants!
5. If He needs to start again he knows that WE WILL ALSO!
6. Remember the Union is US they? most do as we wish, and I suspect that there will have to be a bit of give and take on both sides? That is NEGOTIATION!
not imposition! which is what HE wanted.
7. So, two days of sticking together has changed his way of thinking, imagine if we start again what perhaps 4 weeks in Christmas or April (JUST BEFORE HE LEAVES - I HOPE) would do to his reputation in `THE CITY`and that's all he cares about.
8. LETS WAIT AND SEE WHAT TAKES PLACE AND REMEMBER THIS HAS COME ABOUT BECAUSE WE WERE TOGETHER lets stay that way, well done so far everyone!![]()

The strikes had to be halted for meaningful negotiations to take place. Neither side could negotiate under duress. We have made the point that we will not be bullied into change. What we have done once we can do again as necessary. The response to the call for industrial action was magnificent,, in marked contrast to the last ballot. To get them to the table is an achievement which shouldn't be belittled. The real work begins now! Are we good enough to negotiate a good deal? That's literally the 64,000 dollar question!
