In the DO i've just joined. Postie just got sacked for a bag of mail being stolen off his bike. No warning , no previous ; just sacked.Eric Cantona wrote:In my cousins office a incident happened last week.
Part time postie on bike leaves bag on it, goes into flats comes out bag gone suspended.
(He never does a lot of overtime.)
Postie in car has packets on show in front seat allegedly, thief breaks window, packets stolen. nothing happened him.
(Does lots of overtime.)
What's the difference?

Re: Posties using there own cars
Like most of these topics of our rights and what Royal Mail should or should not do...
It is so much easier for an established member of staff to come here and spout off about this and that... However, if you are on a temporary contract and/or on probabation, you dont go into a new job and demand that things work your way.
Some offices just dont work the way they should and what you find out in the office is that the staff are divided with some being untouchable and gets the way (usually as per seniority or importance (driver/overtimers/sorters and others), some just go with the flow because they are not affected, some creep with managers/just above the bottom of food chain and not doing too too bad and others are towards the bottom and get sh*t on.
If you are a part timer and you show very little flexibility - the next time you do something wrong (we all do from time to time), you get hammered.
* The example we have of postie leaving post in bag on bike happens all the time but I doubt an experienced postman will be suspended for it unless the person has been very careless (despite warning or signs of danger) or the postie stayed away from mail for a long time.

Re: Posties using there own cars
I totally agree with this think about how many extra drivers we would have if people did the job properly and waited for the van! Funny thing is posties probably dont really benefit that much because of the extra fuel / driving wear and tear. The result is RM save money on drivers and vans plus as everyone is finishing early so the DOM can give us all more work!halfull wrote:people who use their own cars on delivery are just plain stupid! they are costing us jobs!
Work harder and fuel costs or Less work for more pay?

Iam on the van everyday and so i never have to do lapsing! And if the driver is late getting out i also get paid OT for waiting and drinking tea!

Work harder and fuel costs or Less work for more pay?seems simple to me! So why are the vans always empty at my DO?

Re: Posties using there own cars
Yes a quite brilliant piece of strategy:
Office A has DM Revision, cars banned, sackable offence to use private car.
Office B has a "self starter" Revision, cars NOT banned and still in use.
Office B is 6 miles away from Office A
Yep that's the way to negotiate a 2010 and Beyond Agreement and modernise the business, with careful thought and consideration given to the planning of change.
What was wrong with simply stating that from X date no cars on delivery. According to previous agreements there had to be sufficient vehicle space to get everyone on site, is this yet another failure to comply with the agreement.

Talking about nonsense agreements.
Two of our members are transferring voluntarily to another D.O. about 10 miles away.
We have had our revision and £800 and so have the two members but the D.O. they are moving to hasn't.
The question is will they pick up two revision payments?

You are the man to answer that question ft, because I am sure that question has been raised and answered before.................and it's no good me looking for it I wouldn't know where to start. From memory I believe the answer was no............BUT.............would payroll pick it up?fishtank wrote:Talking about nonsense agreements.

CWU made a big thing about cars being stopped, but like you say it should of been from a certain date, not when an office has had a revision and there are plenty of vans available. What was wrong with simply stating that from X date no cars on delivery. According to previous agreements there had to be sufficient vehicle space to get everyone on site, is this yet another failure to comply with the agreement.
Pile of crap,RM would of never agreed to it as the place would of fallen apart.
We had them by the bollox with that, and we let them go.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Posties using there own cars
It wasn't our decision to let them go, we wanted to continue and should have continued for a better deal..............modernisation of course, but on a secure footing with a fair share of the profits...........instead of what we got. Re: Posties using there own cars
It wasn't our decision to let them off the hook. What we got was an interim agreement, which solved nothing but was canted by some as the answer, followed by the deal of the century. You could say I was a little bitterPOSTMAN wrote:CWU made a big thing about cars being stopped, but like you say it should of been from a certain date, not when an office has had a revision and there are plenty of vans available. What was wrong with simply stating that from X date no cars on delivery.
