Yes...you would need courier insurance to deliver over sized parcels and specials so if your manager asks you to do it he is asking you to ignore Royal Mail procedure but more importantly he is asking you to break the law.John_B wrote:So does the same procedure count for tracked items and over sized parcels and specials ?fishtank wrote:
RM Private Cars on Delivery Procedure
Q23. Could I be required or instructed to take second pouches for another delivery officer, if I go past the pouch box?
A. No. Neither of the insurance polices would cover this and you would therefore be driving your car without insurance. It requires a higher class of business cover to be authorized to perform “drops” of goods. All pouches will be delivered to pouch boxes by official acceleration

Re: Posties using there own cars
Simple question: What happens if one of the posties car breaks down or is off the road and he cant bring it to work, how does he perform his duty then ?
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

It truly is amazing how far some managers will go ,and how much crap some uninformed workers will swallow. Where do you start to explain when some are so far down the bonded labour track?

Re: Posties using there own cars
we had this whole issue last year.
your manager CAN NOT ask a member of staff to use their own car for any RM work.
you can however use your own car to convey yourself and your fist bag of mail to your starting point (assuming your revision is not in yet).
it was popular at one time as you could finish and go straight home rather than heading back the DO.
those were the days my friend, we thought.................

Re: Posties using there own cars
in the latest agreement didn't they ban all private vehicles on delivery? No manager should be permitting this. We have actually had someone sacked for using car on delivery.

Re: Posties using there own cars
7 miles there, at RM walking speed of 4mph, would take 1 hour and 45 minutes, the same to come back. They'd have no choice but to supply a van or transport, otherwise their deliveries would have to be cut back to about half an hour.John_B wrote:7 miles there and 7 miles back is a long walk, has that corrected you ?baleout wrote:Really can't be bothered to read all the threads on here because I cannot see any situation where Posties can justify using the own vehicle.

Correct me if you can !
What RM should be doing or should have done is supply another van, but I think they have more chance at winning the loto.

I am a rural driver.
A few months ago all the RM drivers signed a new security form. Amongst many of things in the new security form was a section about "security of mail" It stated (not word for word) that all mail must be kept in the back of the vans locked up, no mail was allowed to be carried on the front seats in view.
Well me being me stormed in to the office saying I was refusing to sign on the grounds that the posties using there cars would have all mail in full view.
It was then that my supervisor turned the page and showed me the bit I hastily missed, it stated, "this does not apply for those using private cars" !!!!
Go figure

Re: Posties using there own cars
In my cousins office a incident happened last week.
Part time postie on bike leaves bag on it, goes into flats comes out bag gone suspended.
(He never does a lot of overtime.)
Postie in car has packets on show in front seat allegedly, thief breaks window, packets stolen. nothing happened him.
(Does lots of overtime.)
What's the difference?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

No it hasn't corrected him - it wouldn't matter if it was a 100 mile trip - It's RMs job to get them there and back..........simple, and I'm not talking about the procedure here.John_B wrote:7 miles there and 7 miles back is a long walk, has that corrected you ?baleout wrote:Really can't be bothered to read all the threads on here because I cannot see any situation where Posties can justify using the own vehicle.
