F***ing hell ive been out all day today and ive come in and this has happened, the strikes should have gone ahead, there has been no agreement reached as postman says, and we dont owe RM any favours, theyve been treating us like s**t for a long time now, if we had gone out and stopped out in the beginning all this would have been sorted by now and perhaps we would have got a decent deal, i will be surprised if we are not asked to compromise on any deal now...UNITY IS STRENGTH.

Look, I understand the "keep the faith line", but come September if its a crap deal then how are we supposed to motivate people to go out again? We will be running up to Christmas, Will RM try and force a walkout knowing people wont stay out at that time of year? My office was on one dayers over turning full time jobs into part time. We had the promise that it would become a National Dispute. Guess what, It didn't.

A deal was struck and we were told no more full time to part time. Bollocks, I now know people that are on 8 (fu**ing EIGHT) hour contracts covering full time walks.

We backed the the PEC, because we hope they would get us a decent deal and now they have called the strike off on the basis that there MIGHT be something there.

The moral high ground is far to expensive. I hope I am wrong and that this is going to be the deal we fought for.

Communication from CWU HQ has been total crap, I spoke to my Area Rep today complaining about the lack of info, guess what he said? "Its being posted to you", FFS, we disrupted the post why dont you email it, fax it or text it? every bit of info I have passed onto my members I have been getting from this site, A BIG thanks to Postman and everyone else that kept us informed.


I hope I am wrong, I really do. I am now going to sit and wait for news of the deal. I will try to keep the faith as others on here are doing, but I'm still buying shares in vasaline, because some ones in for a bit of up hill gardening and I hope its them pair of twats Leighton and Crozier, and not us come September, cause everyone knows thats the time you plant your roses. I don't think CWU will sell us out.

But CWU (i.e. US) had the advantage. The results from the last four weeks should have been used as THE negotiating position, not given away in a 'fob off' of jam tomorrow. It is easier to get what you want when yopu are holding their balls..... Now they have time to put on a Kevlar Jock Strap.....

RM now know how hard we can hit them, and they will be making contingency plans for the next (inevitable) bout of IA. This fact with the inevitable drifting away of CWU members and people needing money in the run up to Xmas means we have lost the initiative.

Whoa everybody, lets just stand back a second. A lot must of happened over the last few days of which we know little of yet. Lets consider a few things.

1. What has brought the 2 sides to `talks` is the fact that we all stood TOGETHER!! ( only a small % did not)) it was this collective togetherness that brought little and large to the table! Remember they did not want to NEGOTIATE ANYTHING!. They wanted to impose everything!

2. In my Opinion added to us all sticking together, was the Fact that the Union listened to us and after the the 1st two strikes, which I belived acheived Nothing!
and changed to TACTICS which were and will ALLOW us if necessary to Win this dispute, IF WE NEED TO `START` AGAIN. So, if we discount the 1st two days (tough I know) what brought Uncle Al up short, were just 2 days of rolling action. This coupled with the `Withdrawal of good will` ( call it what you like) AND WHICH HAS MADE THE DOMS LIFE`S HELL (BLOODY GOOD JOB) has I believe got the Message over to AL &C THAT WE WILL NOT BE `WALKED OVER`.

3.The only other time that Al has come to the table was when there was the `Unofficial Action of `last time`

4. I THINK THIS HAS AGAIN BEEN ONE OF THE FEW OCCASSIONS IN HIS BUSINESS `LIFE` when he has not been able to bully his way to want he wants!

5. If He needs to start again he knows that WE WILL ALSO!

6. Remember the Union is US they? most do as we wish, and I suspect that there will have to be a bit of give and take on both sides? That is NEGOTIATION!
not imposition! which is what HE wanted.

7. So, two days of sticking together has changed his way of thinking, imagine if we start again what perhaps 4 weeks in Christmas or April (JUST BEFORE HE LEAVES - I HOPE) would do to his reputation in `THE CITY`and that's all he cares about.

8. LETS WAIT AND SEE WHAT TAKES PLACE AND REMEMBER THIS HAS COME ABOUT BECAUSE WE WERE TOGETHER lets stay that way, well done so far everyone!

I second that.

The strikes had to be halted for meaningful negotiations to take place. Neither side could negotiate under duress. We have made the point that we will not be bullied into change. What we have done once we can do again as necessary. The response to the call for industrial action was magnificent,, in marked contrast to the last ballot. To get them to the table is an achievement which shouldn't be belittled. The real work begins now! Are we good enough to negotiate a good deal? That's literally the 64,000 dollar question!

Just looking at the statement:

- that both parties commit to talks on all the issues between them, hosted and facilitated by the TUC. Both sides commit to reach an agreement by 4 September.
- that, during this period the talks are on a confidential basis with no media or internal briefings unless explicitly jointly agreed. The CWU Executive and Royal Mail Board will receive regular updates on progress and would also be expected to undertake this confidentiality clause.
- that, for that period, Royal Mail will not serve notice or take any unilateral action to impose changes by executive action.
- that, for that period CWU will suspend industrial action.
- that, the signatories to this joint statement will review the process as and when necessary.

Look, DO keep the faith. Can you see RM sticking to that 2nd 'confidentiality' clause. NO WAY!!!! Their excuses for managers will break their necks to tell us any shite. Therefore that breaks ANY confidentiality clause.

Any of the points broken above means WE get back to hitting the cobbles!!!

I hope those who are saying Ward and Hayes won't sell us out are right, but allow me to have my doubts.
For starters, I wasn't ballotted on whether I was willing to strike to force them to negotiate, but to strike against their below-inflation pay offer with strings. Dave Ward introduced the crap about calling off the IA if they entered `meaningful negotiations'. I was sceptical every time he came out with it.
Yes, we showed them we are solid (only a couple of strike breakers in my 900-strong branch), yes we forced them to postpone their unilateral changes to attendance times, and yes we forced them to negotiate. But doesn't that show we could have forced them to tretreat on their plans instead of calling it off part-way?
We're not even allowed to know how the negotiations are going.
Is this a PEC decision, or just Hayes and Ward?
If its a crappy deal (score draw), it will be hard work to get the members to reject it and even harder to get them out again. Yes we have to try, but I wish I had the confidence of others.

I dont think Dave & Billy will sell us down the swanny,they have both come up through the system in the royal mail and know exactly how the membership will react if its a bum deal.Lets give them a chance,after all they are fighting for their jobs as well,if their is a mass chucking in of membership cards,they aint got a job.

Rumours will be flying about from now until 4th September,lets not take anything as read until the agreement is finalised by the CWU and released on their website.

what has not been said is......what about our brothers and sisters who have already had their IA this week....how do you think they are feeling now.
