They are saving up all the extra profits from d2d until there is enough to pay the bonus, then its all for them.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

D2D is the Uncle who reeks of gin and always made you nervous as a kid but never forgot to put money in your birthday card.

You make a fair point but isn't that the uncle who usually sexually abuses the nephews and nieces?

That's typical, first try and get them done by any means, and when that doesn't work, then use common sense!
It might seem like common sense in the short term but in the long run decisions like this can only hurt us.
This will cost RM a fortune in refunds and printing costs and will lose us business.
You might not give a s**t now and to a certain extent i understand how you feel but in the end any loss of business is never a good thing.

I dont think most people give a damn about d2ds now, at the end of the day it is junk mail

But is it worth losing your job over "junk mail"?

Unfortunately a lot of the addressed mail is also seen as "junk Mail" by households - should we stop delivering them as well.

Should we have a grading scale for deliveries :left:

No once its in my bag its all treated the same, why worry what you are delivering it all brings in revenue, which ultimately pays our wages. Okay it can be a pain in the arse because of bad management; but if we stop delivering stuff based on whether we think its junk mail or not, or whether the receiver wants it or not and they cant be bothered to "Opt Out" officially, then Royal Mails ability to actually pay us will suffer.

Bulk mail is addressed and cost a lot more and are a lot more targetted than D2D. You will never ever receive an addressed mail from Farm Foods for example. I do not think it is making that much profit to worry about losing jobs over.

D2D does not work even for very big companies! You can correct me if I am wrong, how many times have you or people you know ever bought anything because of D2D? Vouchers and samples are a different thing - even RM says so in the Courier.

Perhaps in a bid to save our jobs, we should destroy the old age profession known as 'paper boys and girls'? Surely, we can deliver newspapers and telephone books because we are still a monopoly on delivery.

D2D is like those private car parks clamping operator. It is a scam and nobody wants it.

But you don't know exactly how many jobs we would lose if we stopped delivering D2D do you? Or how many extra walks we would have to lapse? What about those colleagues who currently work in the D2D bundling centres?

If D2D didn't work for them, they wouldn't waste money doing it. Even if the take up rate is as low as 3% that might mean it is economically viable for the company. And for us it means another cheque sent through the post or another parcel sent to a customer.
How many people do you know who voted yes to 2010 and Beyond? Just because people don't admit to doing something, it doesn't mean they don't do it.

We used to deliver the phone books and good money it was too.
I regard paper boys as child labour and I have never had my paper delivered.

Well not evidence but personal experience.

I used to work for a mail order company that worked with councils to sell subsidised Compost Bins, Recycling Boxes etc. I know for a certainty but can't prove it obviously, but D2Ds were one of the biggest sale streams and for quite a small outlay.

For instance in Southend about 10 years or so ago that company sold 3,000 compost bins at IIRC £15 a shot. The extra sales themselves for the accessories generated roughly £20,000 on that day. Then as the bins were subsidised we got a further payment from the council but I cant remember how much that was. For that Southend promotion we also sold and delivered probably double that amount after that. SO at a conservative guess 9,000 at a minimum of £15 = £135,000 - not bad from a mail shot through the door which even at todays prices would cost just under £10K

It's simple economics.
If D2D didn't work....it wouldn't be under your frame on a monday morning.
How well it works is like any other advertising platform...open to debate...but of no interest to me.
