Stratford MP urges more resources to sort out post problems

STRATFORD MP Nadhim Zahawi has urged Royal Mail to ensure that its Stratford sorting office gets the resources it needs to catch-up on its 41,000-item backlog.

Mr Zahawi’s call follows a recent visit to the sorting office to see what progress had been made in tackling the postal delivery problems that have beset his constituency since mid-November.

During the visit last Friday Mr Zahawi met Royal Mail sector delivery manager David Wright, who confirmed that 20 managers from across the region had been drafted in to help clear the backlog and that the organisation was in the process of employing 10 additional full-time staff to start in February.

Mr Wright assured Mr Zahawi that daily deliveries across the area had been reinstated last Thursday, January 13 and that he expected to clear the backlog and be back to normal by yesterday.

“I have urged Royal Mail’s head office to ensure that the local office is properly resourced, both now and until their new staff are in place and fully trained. There is no point in us catching up on the backlog only for it to slip back again. I will be continuing to keep a close eye on the situation”
