A POSTMAN from Church Hill in Redditch is taking on a death-defying challenge, to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Warren Dowler, along with several friends from the Redditch recruitment company e-Response, has signed up for The Tough Guy challenge, which is taking place in Worcester next week.

The challenge is a huge assault course filled with extreme challenges for the competitors to overcome, which would task the fittest of people, but Mr Dowling isn't too worried.

He said: "I wanted a challenge really, and a couple of my friends have done it before. We haven't trained for it, but we'll be alright. I'm a posty so I walk about 10 miles a day."

The Tough Guy challenge includes endurance runs along streams, up hills, and through mud, but it also introduces obstacles such as electric fences, described by the organisers as being "primed and charged with twice the power required to stun a bull", as well as beds of stinging nettles, raging fires, and barbed wire.

All of which doesn't even mention the sheer quantity of freezing cold water competitors have to swim through, dive under and battle against to get to the end.

Mr Dowler added: "You have to sign a death waiver when you do it, and last year 600 people got hospitalised, but it's for Help for Heroes, so we're just trying to raise as much as possible really."

To sponsor Mr Dowler or any of his team mates, visit the e-Response offices in Redditch town centre or got to http://www.charitygiver.com/charity/hel ... ugh-guy-11" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
