SPALDING Post Office is to close temporarily while work continues behind the scenes to find someone to run it.

The branch will be closed from Monday, February 21, and will remain shut until a suitable partner and premises are found.

The decision follows an announcement that current partner Lincolnshire Co-operative is to move its foodstore, home department and coffee shop out of the Winsover Centre that day.

The Co-op has offered to continue running the Post Office in a different part of the building, but new premises need to be found as contractual negotiations continue for B&M Retail to take over its current space.

Sally Hopkins, spokesman for the Post Office, said the Co-op has not been ruled out, but the search continues for other suitable partners and premises.

Letters have been sent out to South Holland and the Deepings MP John Hayes and South Holland District Council informing them of the temporary closure and asking for suggestions to secure its future.

Mrs Hopkins said: “Although we have a couple of parties in the running, the process is still in the early stages and we are calling on anyone else to come forward and let us know if they are interested.

“It is always our intention to provide a seamless service, with one premises closing and another opening straight away, but that has not been possible in this case.

“We understand that customers in Spalding will be concerned about the future of Post Office services. Provision of these services is important to us and we will continue to work hard to restore services as soon as possible.”
