Strikes Called Off

I jus hope we haven't pulled the plug too early. Dave Ward was in a dodgy situation though as he said he would supsend IA once meaningful talks started so I hope we just aint giving RM a chance to clear the backlog. I think it may be harder for us to rally the troops again if they think we are going to cave in the minute RM offers to shake our hands.

Other than that.....we need to pat ourselves on the back for a strong, well managed campaign. Put a good spin on it and show the members that it is because we stood strong we forced them back to the table..perhaps Leighton and Crozier realised how close they were to losing their jobs this time.

I really hope the CWU get a result from talking. If talks then break down I suspect this will have a devastating effect on all of us. My office were already seeing a couple more cross the picket line on each strike day. I really hate to say this, but fear there will be very little support for the CWU if they announce further action because of lack of firm commitment from talks with RM.

OK let's all calm down a bit and hope that the PEC does know what it's doing. Remember to work to the 318s as this puts just as much pressure on the DIMs as actual striking.

The truth is that we always offered to call off the strikes if they agreed to negotiate. It really is the only option –

The strike isn’t off – its suspended to allow for up to 3 weeks of talks. The talks have to deliver an agreement. It’s important to recognize that the strike ballot is still valid at that point should we need to resume.

If talks break down and we are asked to resume strike action. I think it will be more difficult to keep those that have been close to crossing the picket line from going into work.

I think the way this last couple of weeks have gone and the amount of chaos we have caused, it show, I hope, that we have a union that is forward thinking in the way we do things. The rolling strikes were ingenious and I would hope that after such a campaign we dont fall back to the old ways of doing things. I hope the PEC are clear of what needs to be done to ensure members confidence in them. I think we may be panicking a bit, and lets just see what happens. As my good ol managers would say.."lets put it all in the blender and see what mix comes out"...lol

Does everyone on here really feel that the union are now about to shaft us, after we have all taken part in what has been a very succesfull period of IA. we should all be proud of ourselfs as CWU HQ is, the way we have stood together north,south,east and west we have proved unity is strengh and that the two jokers can not grind us or our union down.
Lets give Dave and Billy a chance not slate them at the very 1st oppertunity giving management what they want by trying to divide us.
If we all stick together do our jobs properly then we will prove to RM that neither us or this union will bow down to bully boy tactics.

how can people be panicking?we have been very solid and the majority of workers have stood together and taken all the s**t rm have given us during the ia,rm have lied through there teeth to us and in the media.we have them by the boll*cks we know that and rm know that---who trusts rm?i certainly dont!

This is true. The current PEC have seen what happened in the old days and I know for fact they will not give us a Johnson/Keggie scenario. We have had the business by the nads for the last 3 weeks. I can imagine L & C going cap in hand to the CWU. I really can.

lets hope we get a winner out of this, and as quoted in here somewhere, strikes are only suspended for the time being. If the PEC don't like it, we go back to doing the business of striking again. And this is where we need to get into those people who were close to coming in. We talk to those who NEARLY come in and say to them "look, your actions (coz you striked) have forced RM around the table. If you come in like other strike breakers, this only hinders the talks as that gives RM fuel to say you're not ars*d"

Thats what I would say to the strikes doubting thomas's.

And to the strike breakers, I would tell them to p*ss off coz THEY have hindered talks and that is why it has taken too long to get the two sides to talk.

Suspended for how long? Just give me a decent increase with no strings and i am happy To all you doubters on here about the union.Don't give up They know what they doing.

SDD was crap, The Way Forward agreement was crap, my office has never got a bonus because every bonus scheme we signed up to was crap and only ever meant us selling mates down the road for pennies. ESOS was crap, how many hours did we give for 92p and 33p?

I am a Union Rep and have been for 10 years, and if the next deal is a pile of crap, that I am expected to sell to my mates, then THE PRC can RAM it.

Its been hard work trying to keep some people out. Its been harder trying to get people on a picket line. Now they want me to go back to those people and tell them that they gave up 4 weeks wages, on the off chance that the Union might get a deal in 4 weeks time. I'm no fortune teller but guess what? I bet its gonna be CRAP.

We had them on the ropes in round 4, we should have kept punching until they through the towel in. Now they get a breather, a chance to recover and we start again FFS!
