I haven't left yet but what i see is too many reps either in the managers back pockets or only in the job to secure a cushy number for themselves.
Their is no backbone anymore... I have even seen situations when managers are clearly at fault in their decision making over a staff member and a reps involved but instead of
helping their cwu colleague they take the side of the manager to make the job easier for themselves.

London went out because of the EA.London was not going to go back unless the EA was sorted this was told to HQ.
Now that is one Division,what were the other divisions doing?

We have the same national agreements as anyone else,we just and so do some others use them better.
Why has the London thing cropped up again.

For the record Scotland were lucky (at the start)to get a yes vote for some of the local ballots.So what chance have you got for the whole division standing together.

I can understand people wanting to walk away from a Union that they see as 'selling them out', I felt that way for a while. However, particularly in times like these, we need a Union and the only way to get the Union you want is to be in it and take part!
If your Rep is too cosy with the DOM, stand against him and get rid. If all you want to do is sit at the back and make smart-arsed comments or winge, nothing will change. The same principal applies right through the Union. You can only change it from within. Don't throw your ballot papers away or you get the Leaders you deserve!

Sadly, we probably need Unions more now than we have for a long time.Not only do those two clowns have to go, but the Union movement in general need to get back to gras roots level.

In over 10 years with RM I have never needed my rep to attend any stage interviews, fact finding interviews etc.
BUT have I needed my rep in those 10 years? YES I HAVE! And so has every single person in my office!
For my rep, he has my support 100%. If HQ showed a fraction of the commitment he does, we would be in a stronger position.

spot on there mate, a collegue was on about stopping his CWU subs and when asked what i thought i said no.

we have no in house rep at the mo as we got some ex army geezer in as DOM (ffs you couldnt make it up) the rep was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

however he has been named for b&h in HYS and had a couple of grevances put in. he has been brought down a peg or 2 now.
the old rep is seriously considering standing again (yippee) and in all his time out (over a year) he has always had a listening ear for each and every one of us backed up with good advice.
in the old days he would really put his neck on the line and to be quite honest if i bought him a pint every week it would amount to the same cost and be well worth it.

as usual its the men (and women) at the bottom that make the difference, ok there are arseholes at the top lining their pockets but that is the same in any large management system.
i say pay up for the benifit of the staff on the whole.

need to get rid of dave and billy the last 2 strikes i have been involve with and gave full backing to the union standing on the lines agaist all the shite that the union eventually agreed to so thats why i have pulled out not because of my local rep but because the top guys are in it for themselves £000,000 saleries from your subs and get me a pay cut for doing d2d s & also put up the subs longer walks, change start times, later sats, pensions getting screwed, no shorter weeks (39hr)??, x amount days pay lost, no every 4 sats off ??, local agrrements and thats the problems and i am sure there are plenty more to add on

A couple months back, I was on the verge of cancelling my dues, as I was so disillusioned. Instead, I ran for union rep, won over the guy who's been rep for 12 years, and start my new position in a couple weeks time.

Much better to try to change it from the inside, than to bitch about it from the outside.
