Pretty sure its POST OFFICE COUNTERS mate.SpacePhoenix wrote:What's POC short for? With van share, a new location for PO DO doesn't necessarily have to be in PO, it could be in an industral estate out of town. I wouldn't be surprised to see SO MC eventually process all outward mail from BH, DT and PO postcode areas. If SO does loose some postcode areas to DMC then my guess is that it would be all the SP codes and some of the SO codes from the south and west areas of the overall SO areaTman wrote:.As you no doubt know,PO is based in a tower block, with different functions on different levels. The CSS machines could just be for the DO section
True, but those machines going in combined with Cashco, distribution and a large POC, plus a shortage of available premises to relocate to for a PO postcodes DO, means closure is unlikely.
That's not to say O/W operations won't be scaled back, but apparently that's already started to happen.
The existing mech isn't scheduled to leave there either (yet) although word is SO is stretched to over-capacity and could be losing some to BH shortly...

Re: Portsmouth Mail Centre Closure
Where is everybody getting these rumours from, as I certainly haven't heard anything in the DMC? All I've been told by our rep is that the SW review is due to start in the next month or so. So please work on facts, not guess work. Goodbye King Eddie.

Re: Portsmouth Mail Centre Closure
It is a FACT that several people "in the know" ie those on VERY cosy terms with management, including union reps and ex-union reps, have transferred to other mail centres from POMC or have taken EVR. Too much of a coincidence I think

How much worse can it get? A LOT F****** WORSE !!!

The problem with working with confirmed facts, is that there's so much secrecy about these things. There are people, who're involved in the processes, who leak information. And when they do, it's worth listening to them. Just look back at some of the topics on here, and see for yourself.magnaman wrote:Where is everybody getting these rumours from, as I certainly haven't heard anything in the DMC? Yeap and they say the Masons are bad!
I would just like to know what is going on re closures so that I can plan for the future ie the wife, the kids and me. Not too much to ask for, unless were talking about RM that is.

But that would require RM to acknowledge that we're actually people. And not merely numbers on a spreadsheet. I don't think they're capable of even that, level of empathy.

Re: Portsmouth Mail Centre Closure
It is no secret that there is a plan to close around half of the original 69 Mail Centres. Very few existing small Mail Centres will survive unless they are in remote areas. The NW MC review has been done and Carlisle has survived, the only other two are likely to be Inverness and Norwich. Where there is existing space in a nearby large MC, the work will go there eg Bolton into Manchester. Otherwise can the large MC be expanded to take in the work eg Oxford/Reading into Swindon. I don't know Dorset MC but it has 2 iLSMs and yes these can be moved but it's unlikely that such an investment would be made if that MC were to be closed soon. Because of the proximity of Southampton/Dorset/Portsmouth they are likely to go into 1 centre so either Dorset will remain or a new one is built around Southampton. While there is a 90 day review process I don't know of any changes that have been made to the plans announced although the London MC review announcement has been delayed until sometime this month apparently.

Re: Portsmouth Mail Centre Closure
The Dorset MC has two iLSM's and five CSS's and is being used to trial new mech/sequencing procedures etc - so no idea if it means we are safe or not.
