LETTERS and packages are piling up outside Formby Sorting Office according to fed-up postmen.

A group of Royal Mail employees contacted the Formby Times to tell of rising complaints from customers who are not receiving their mail during the current strike.

They say cages filled with items addressed to Formby residents arrived at the sorting office at 5.30am on Tuesday but were left outside in the yard for up to six hours instead of being delivered to homes.

Postmen are are taking part in a series of staggered stoppages but employees in Formby say they are willing to carry on after their shifts to clear the backlog. However, Royal Mail say they will not pay overtime to striking employees.

One postman said: “We are willing to do the overtime but management won’t allow it. In the meantime we receive complaints while we are out on rounds and everyone at Formby Post Office has just had enough. Letters are being left outside the post office for hours, if it rains it will all be ruined

“The strike has been organised so that transport are one day, deliveries the next day and so on. It has nothing to do with the 2.5% pay increase offered – it’s the loss of 40,000 jobs that is the problem. It means we would lose a third of our staff and we are on strike to prevent that from happening.

“We are willing to work all day to get the mail delivered. It’s scandalous Royal Mail won’t allow it and customers deserve to know why they are not getting their post.

“The office phone at Formby rings every two minutes with a complaint from a resident, so management have simply stopped answering the phone.â€

“What we won’t do is pay people extra money to sort backlogs that their actions have caused.
So why did the Gruesome Twosome get such big bonuses.
