Sorry to hear about your mail centre. Did see a rumour on here a while back that the south west review would be the last in the country to take place and that it would begin in Feburary 2011, finishing with a decision in August 2011. Of course a rumour, but we definately seem to have been left to last.

I know no more than everyone else on here, but would have a bet on PO,BH/DT,and SO/SP MC's closing in the future, and a new MC either being built or leased somewhere around the M27/M3 motorways.Rumour still doing the rounds about a big Tesco's distribution site, just outside nursling (SO),which is just off the M27...
same as it ever was...

When the South West review does start,a team from you union committee will be formed and talks will take place about any mc closures or new mc's being built, the team from the union will proberly have to sign a clause not to reveal anything about closures ect until rm have secured any potential sites for new mail centers.Once rm have announced their proposals there will be a 90 day break for the union team to come up with alternitive plans and reasons not to close mail centers,rm will not listen to any ideas other than their ones.Once you have been told of any closures and dates, preference papers will be issued asking you your prefered choice,ie transfer to new sites following your work, possible transfer to another part of the bussiness...ie from processing to deliveries. You'll proberly have wtll surgeries with someone from the rm revision team and a union rep from the revision team, where you can ask any questions about you relocation and terms and conditions, dont expect to many answers to any questions,i asked plenty of questions and the person from rm wrote them down,i am still waiting for answers.

My mc (Watford )is scedule to close this year, proberly July/August,the building is already there(Hemel Hempstead),a few changes need to be made and all the machinery installed,Stevenage MC is closing as well and will be going to the Hemel site.

I hear what you say....but if they did'nt sign the confidentiality clause they were not welcome on to the review team.

Disregard the silly rumours; POMC is getting CSS machines in June/July 2011, although it seems clear that at some point in the future there will be a PO/SO super MC on the M27 somewhere.
Current financial problems mean that that could be years away though......

As you no doubt know,PO is based in a tower block, with different functions on different levels. The CSS machines could just be for the DO section. Also,as you know,it only takes a weekend to dismantle and then refit a CSS anywhere in the country...so just because they're getting CSS doesn't really count for any sort of long term future...or for any MC for that matter.

Sometimes, initial rumours of trouble can be true, regardless of what is 'officially' said.

.

True, but those machines going in combined with Cashco, distribution and a large POC, plus a shortage of available premises to relocate to for a PO postcodes DO, means closure is unlikely.
That's not to say O/W operations won't be scaled back, but apparently that's already started to happen.
The existing mech isn't scheduled to leave there either (yet) although word is SO is stretched to over-capacity and could be losing some to BH shortly... :whistle

makes a change, but your 100% wrong about the "stretched to over-capacity" :whistle In fact apart from the flats and manual letters,ALL PO 2c goes to SO including mech,RTS,D2D,packets (large and small),and also tracked! Its true to say they couldnt handle the late shift/1c operation at the airport site, which is why i think it will end in a merger between the 3 MC's in the region. As for losing some to BH,that really had me chuckling,as a good friend in distribution told me that a 600 with 15 yorks was diverted to SO from BH just today! :left:

I've heard (don't know if true or not) that logistics will take over distribution at DMC as well so it may be a national thing. I think that the nearest logistics depot to DMC and POMC is Southampton way, will all the drivers and 600 vans then be based out of Southampton?

What's POC short for? With van share, a new location for PO DO doesn't necessarily have to be in PO, it could be in an industral estate out of town. I wouldn't be surprised to see SO MC eventually process all outward mail from BH, DT and PO postcode areas. If SO does loose some postcode areas to DMC then my guess is that it would be all the SP codes and some of the SO codes from the south and west areas of the overall SO area
