Have you not answered your own question there - if it was for D2Ds indoor staff would not get the functional supplement, but they do.

The idea in time is to get the DS into basic pay, what you could have is opg's in the same office with different basic pay if it was seperated.

Why it was not put into basic pay straight away is beyond me.

Sorry don't believe that old chestnut for many reasons.

1. Not enough Distrubution workers to swamp the Delieries ones - Deliveries outnumber everyone else in the Union.
2. MC and all the other get a smaller supplememt.
3. Most of the MCs had to give up other supplements and bonus entitlements to get it.

We were let down by Yes voters in deliveries and more importantly by those that did not vote (of course not including those that could not for various reasons)

The CWU no longer represents the wishes and aspirations of the membership. They did not hold true to treating part time and full time staff the same. They did not use the strike effectively to better the terms and conditions of the membership. They fully accepted the workplan put forward by Royal Mail IN FULL, supported wholeheartedly by "those in the know" and misled the membership into believing the rewards were better than they were . The "bonuses" represent monies already earned and due, the pay rises are absolutely risible under the increases in VAT and cost of living rises we now have and can expect more of the same at a time when earnings, in real terms, are falling.

The pay and pension of those at the helm of the CWU will not suffer one iota and the leadership will be the same with more of the same and the apologists hanging on to their coat tails for all they are worth. Make no bones about it, the CWU is a business and despite popular myth the membership are NOT the union, they are merely the vehicle that allows it to survive.

Slightly off topic apologies, but i never knew until now that:

Where an employer recognises one union can a worker ask to be accompanied by an official of another union at a disciplinary or grievance hearing?

Yes. There is no requirement in the Employment Relations Act 1999, section 10 that a trade union official who accompanies a worker at a disciplinary or grievance hearing must be from a recognised trade union. The official must simply be either employed by a trade union of which he or she is an official, or a lay official of a trade union whom the union has reasonably certified in writing as having experience of, or as having received training in, acting as a worker's companion at disciplinary or grievance hearings. Certification may take the form of a card or letter. If the worker is a member of a non-recognised trade union, the worker may therefore ask to be accompanied by a trade union official from that trade union. Indeed, there is no requirement in the legislation for the worker to be a member of the trade union at all to be accompanied by a trade union official, although in practice trade unions rarely support workers who are not their members.
"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."

I lost over a £1000 a year thanks to our brilliant union. Well done boys! Screw over the people you should be looking after. As for the it's fairer for everyone brigade, the only person I can now afford to look out to is me.

Now there's a thought for all those CWU members that feel abandoned by the leadership .
Why not do something positive and join the IWW ,don't think they have ever been accused of being bosses collaborators and i've heard their reps are mustard at hearings :dance
