The time your mail arrives is dependant on where your office is in the Great Plan.
It isn't open to local agreement.
we,re about 10mins away from the mail centre. hopefully that will go in our favour, but knowing rm, they will probably send it out to the outlying offices first.
No, the closer you are to the MC then the later you get your mail.
why?
it doesn't work that way.in carlisle wave 1 (dg offices) leaves at 0430 and wave 2 (ca offices) leaves at 0500 so the delivery office closest to the mail centre will get their mail 1st.simples.wave 3 (dg again) leaves at 0530( but is usually late) and wave 4 (ca again) leaves at 0600.
Not what we've been told (by the planner) we'll get ours last because we're that close to the MC, maybe if the MC staff actually did some work instead of spending their entire lives on breaks then we might get our mail in reasonable time.
yet another well thought out arguement dgp.your ignorance is amazing.if that was said about delivery staff you would spit your dummy out again and go on another rant.
Did you have to come off your break just to think of that
Anyway, they have said that the furthest office get their mail sequenced first (it depends of who does the sequencing) but we will get ours last and so our starting time is being put forward as 8.30 because of it. Not that I care, I could do with the lie in these days
I await with baited breath you coming back off your break to make a bad tempered comment

Tbf that is not exactly true, depending on your area size it all depends on when offices get their last WSM mail coach.
You 'may' be lucky and be on the 1st run so you get it earlier than another office which is on the last run.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

i give up,i really do.
who the hell invests £2 billion into a servic and makes it worse?????????????
you really couldn't make it up!!!!!!!!!!!
Why?? Is that what you say when you're at work and can't be bothered sending the stuff down to the DOs fully prepared (in trays - not in bags, presorted tray with label actually on them - not just thrown in to get them out the door) in fact anything just so you can leave.
Honestly, try putting in a full day sometimes, you'll feel less like the managers and more like proper posties.
PS. Needless to say I'm still pissed that MC staff get more of a break than the posties who actually do most of the work.

you really must have a s**t mail centre over there or otherwise carlisle must be brilliant as we do exactlly what you are moaning about.
p.s.
we only get 5 minutes more break because of european law and the only real difference is that mail centre staff generally take their breaks unlike d.o. staff who are still only concerned about finishing early all the time.
p.p.s
just to avoid confusion i work in the distribution side not processing.
p.p.p.s
do try to be less bitter about the meal breaks.

I work indoors too. And we do in fact get an extra 20 minute "grace break". Which for reasons I can't hope to fathom, was included for indoor work, but NOT for deliveries. When The Way Forward Agreement was voted in. Having said that: As it's a grace break, Management are within their rights to take it off us, if they think we're not pulling our weight. Not that I've ever known them do that. Although we've been threatened with loosing it, during the gaps between Strikes, each time we've had IA.
The fact that Deliveries missed out on the grace break, in that agreement. Just goes to show, that shafting one particular section, is not a new thing with these agreements. It's been going on for at least a decade! I guess people didn't read the whole agreement before voting on that one too.
Don't knock Insanity
it's just another outlook on Reality!
break or no-break, indoor work is often a less specific job with often more than one person doing certain jobs.
A delivery postman will have to do his round regardless of whether he takes his breaks during work or at the end. It is hard to scive as a delivery postman except those cheeky ones on IPS; and guess what, whilst on IPS, they are working like a lot of MC workers - sorting.
MC workers take their breaks, dont have to start early or have to negiotiate overtime payments but delivery workers have a hard time (these days) doing their job without constant confrontation with management and sometimes customers too. If a customers stops me for a query, it is my time that is being wasted, same if I take toilet breaks/smoke breaks or even a bike or car break down. Its not easy getting overtime even when it is booked.
Anyways, we have been told once or twice that MC staff sometimes cut off because They cannot be bothered or when they feel that they might not make things happen because of time pressure - great!

I appreciate that your responding to unfair comments about MC staff, but, most DO staff who work through their M/R don't finnish early. They do it to complete on time and in practice at least we are expected to complete every day.

Thats the case, the offices that are further away will recieve there mail first
I was thinking about the issue of breaks today when I got to work to find a deluge of mail and packets - that must have been kept in a warehouse somewhere.
I did take even a 'leak' and yet left the office at about 10.30am with about 12 signed for mail and lots of packets and 6 specials dotted all over the walk. I was over even without a break and how can I do the special before 1.00pm by taking a full 30 minutes break during the walk...
Folks cannot just leave the IPS and state to the manager that they want to take their break, say like 7.30 or 8am or even 9.00am. It is a completely different job and MC workers have it easy - I know. The only part of MC work I dislike is the constant noise from the machines.
On the issue of saturdays, CWU coming up with ridiculous working patterns just to placade postmen is not good enough. Later saturday is later saturday. CWU should try to help those that dont get 1 saturday in 10.
As for these later Saturdays i hope that Royal Mail do away with a Sat delivery I know it would mean job cuts but if it went to a vote most people would vote in favour (i think) anyone agree?

Yep, me.
Absolutely no need to have postmen/women out delivering crap late into Saturday afternoon, no need at all. Either they go back to decent finishes on Saturdays, or get rid of Saturday deliveries altogether. Sick and tired of seeing my job made shyter and shyter......Enough, is enough.
