Re: ill health lump sum retirement
Hiya,I am 50 years old and have 22 years service.I have today been offered 17k lump sum for ill health retirement.2 years ago royal mail calculated 32.5k for my evr lump sum which unfortunately I just missed out on. I can't believe I'm being offered a derisory £800 quid for each year of service. Is it worth challenging this 'offer'?

Re: ill health lump sum retirement
I've got a question you folks might be able to help me with.
If a person were to get IHR and said person was of an age where they could draw their pension early (55 or over),
but still some years away from state retirement age, would the pension be actuarily reduced ?

Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?

I was ill health retired last November.I was going to retire next May anyway so I was six months short of my sixtieth birthday.
I rang the pension helpline and asked for a pension forecast for May when I will be sixty and one if I were to take my pension now.
It worked out that if I took it now then I would lose £3.20 p/w off of my pension and £419.30 from my lump sum.
So I have decided to wait until May this year. Obviously, the longer it is until your sixtieth birthday, if you draw your pension early,
Then the more the pension will be reduced.

Re: ill health lump sum retirement
Thanks Gus. Just to confirm then, pension is actuarilly reduced for the years up to age 60, not up to 65 ?
That is, for a wholly hypothetical example, IHR at 55 would see pension reduced by 5 years at 5% per year = by 25% in total, and not by 10 years at 5% per year = by 50% in total. Have I got this right ?

Re: ill health lump sum retirement
Hello All
I have been off now for almost 9 month with a medical problem, Atos told me on the last call if I felt I could not return for fear of going through the same again I could go for IHLS but had to have a call from one of there doctor's first.
In the call the doctor told me that yes there is a time span of 9 months unfit BUT it only starts after that call, so in effect I will not be eligable for IHLS for another 9 months, I cant believe they would want to keep paying me rather than just get me off thier back now.
I dont really want to go under the knife at the moment and feel satying away from a job I no longer wish to be in would serve me better.
I think I am just going to walk away but has the information thier doctor gave me been correct?
Any help and advice would be most welcome.
Thanks

Hello All
Any advice available yet to my previous post about the procedure for IHLS,
Would be helpful to know the time lines involved and if I have been informed correctly?
Thanks
