Cycle 2 work scheme

Found a link,its 25% of a £500 plus bike after a year (so wouldn't that be a final payment of £120 ) get one for £499 that will knock it down to 18%

My final payment at the end of the term is £35 already been confirmed. If it's any different I'll be cancelling

surely it would be 25% of the value of the bike at the end of the term?



this is on their site at the moment:

"Thank you for your patience while we made some changes. The key change that affects you is that the Inland Revenue have increased the value of the bike at the end of the hire. If Royal Mail Group chooses to give you the option to purchase the equipment at the end of the hire, there may be a tax liability which for a £500 bike will be no more than £9 for a basic rate taxpayer or £18 for a higher rate taxpayer."

I'm interested in the Boardman Sport which is showing on the Halfords website as £467.99 but the in store price is showing £549.00

Now, it says I can reserve the bike online and pick it up at the store but will they allow me to receive it with Letter of Collection? I've got a feeling they won't

Also, this Letter of Collection. Can I use it at any bike stockists that partake in this cycle2work scheme? There's a bike shop local to me who also does the C2W and I have a very good mate who's best friends with the owner. I was wondering if I can give Halfords a serve and go directly to him? Reason why I ask this is I've gone through Halfords to set this up but am I obligated to stay with Halfords?

i sent off for my letter of collection today, i also wish to have the boardman sport and wont bother if i am forced to have a carrera, instore at my local halfords it 489 i believe but i would also try to order it into store from their website, if you email them they should be able to give u the answers we both require, as in the past i was after more info about bikes i can get and they were very prompt in response, try emailing cycle2.work@halfords.co.uk

actually i just emailed them myself in regards to this situation so ill let u know the response, i think we should be ok as the automated response email from them gives you a link to boardman bikes which inturn links to the £467.49 bike!

what is the scheme?? do royalmail pay money towards or do you pay the bike off to them or how does it work??

RM pay nothing towards it, they let u pay for the bike out of your wages each week over 18 months,
u can borrow upto £500, u don't pay tax on it, so in effect, u pay less than £500 back,
i'm not sure of the exact amount you pay back, but it's a decent amount less,
i've just got my second bike through the scheme, well happy with it.

Do you pay VAT on the up front cost or only on the option to purchase fee?

Picked up my bike today from Halfords

I'd already pre-ordered the Boardman Sport but when I got to the store they'd messed up and it was no longer there. Anyway, they gave me the next model up (Boardman Comp) for the same price. £700 bike for £500 - result

Anyone who is tempted to enter this scheme, I fully recommend it. Took just over 2 weeks from submitting the application to picking my bike up.

indeed very jammy, i got my boardman sport weds, im well happy with it, the accessories that could be bought with the excess were crap though.
waiting for the weather to pick up b4 i venture properly but done a 3 mile offroader today to test it.

indeed very jammy, i got my boardman sport weds, im well happy with it, the accessories that could be bought with the excess were crap though.
waiting for the weather to pick up b4 i venture properly but done a 3 mile offroader today to test it.

if u have a compatible phone, it's well worth using to track what miles u cover and what times etc,
u can actually use it for other sports as well,
it can also be used when out on delivery also, it gives quite an interesting breakdown on what u actually do,
miles covered, average pace etc.
but it's quite a battery whore, so be careful.
