Popped in to see the misery etched on people's faces. Brochure and catalogues galore, i f*cked off back to bed.

Heavy today with loads of catalogues and brochures. Packets were ok. Apparently they had it easy yesterday, cleared the cards, leaving the other stuff for today.

Not too bad a day in actual terms (REAL mail and packets), but we were battered with thick, 'orrible catalogues, some of which had to be left out of the bundles and treated as parcels because they were so big and solid. The problem is that they weigh around about 1.5kg each, some of them, which makes life a nightmare if you have a system set-up for bags that is sensible in its design. All planning goes out of the roof when one side of a street has four of the frakkers - you have to split your bags down and go again, though as a bike man I just threw all the catalogues into one bag and the mail in another, then split the former into my panniers when I got there. It was still a bloody nightmare though.

The worst thing is when you get to a door and you can't fit the catalogue through the letterbox. I always go through a 'shall I, shan't I?' moment where I wonder whether I would be shielded from the opprobrium that might besmirch my good name should I doorstep said item, leading to a 'customer complaint' (because, let's be honest, some of them'll whinge about anything). Usually, I manage to contort and contrive a way to get it in - I guess they'll just complain about their bent and ripped catalogue instead, though t.b.h. I expect many of them go the way of the d2ds.

Anyway, enough of that. Three days off - it feels like heaven at the minute with all the days off. I'm sleeping more than I'm waking (that sentence could lead a few astray if read in the wrong light, couldn't it?).

Oh, and next week they've shoved me out in the sticks (the joy of being a reserve).

My start time is 9am, apparently the conveyance van leaves at 8.30am!

Logistics, Royal Mail style!

I foresee a week of cut-offs, and a week of not posting my first letter until 10.30am (optimistic).

With hindsight, I think they may well see that it wasn't such a wise decision to stick a guy who doesn't use his own car (99.9% of the office does) on a walk of this nature, but I guess we shall see. It doesn't look like a bad walk though, either on the fitting or on Google. Circa 480 delivery points, nothing spectacularly out of the way. Who knows, I might enjoy it. One instance of me missing the ferry back though and I'll hit the f*cking roof - grievances and everything. Whilst I'm at work they owe me a duty of care and if I'm stranded out in the middle of frakking nowhere, someone is going to get it.

Straight back to it. Loads of catalogues and magazines. Packets were ok, one or two late xmas stuff I think. Revision kicks in next week, but only half the office. ah well, they never listen...

Further to my predictions, the logistics of getting me out to 'the sticks' simply couldn't be worked. Firstly, they didn't even get the walk fully chucked out. That's bad enough in itself, but when you've never even SEEN the fitting before you walk up to it, how much time do they think that's going to take? Add in the missorts, packets (some of which had to be left) and redirections and I wasn't ready until after 10am. Where I found that there was no-one to get me out to 'the sticks'. Eventually, someone was found. Nobody knew where the bags should be dropped. Did they even think for one minute about this when they assigned the duty number to my name on their stupid sheets? I didn't get to post my first letter until 10.30am. My last bag had to be 'streamed' just for me to be able to finish - I still went over my time. Every time I needed a new bag I had to walk back to the same point, which was sometimes as far as three quarters of a mile away (I know - my phone told me!) by the time I had finished the last one.

Then I had to get a bus home in a strange town. Thanks, Royal Mail. Making the job harder, an inch at a time. If tomorrow is like today, adding in my first load of d2ds, I'll have less than two hours to complete a duty. And they'll still tell me I can do it. Then when I tell them I can't, I won't, I musn't, they'll try anything to coerce or bully me into it.

To be honest, I'm losing the will to carry on. Either way, I anticipate that my current contract shall be my last with RM.

Don't take the whole walk out, just what you think you can deliver, tell them early in the morning. I think streaming is not allowed.

Went in to do some prep, LOADS of mail and flats on the walk i prepped. Took a look at the walk i was covering (i was due a week on a walk i know well but due to absences i had to cover this particular one) it was being prepped slowly and the guys adjacent just laughed when they found out i was doing it. The bulk of the flats and no d2d were prepped but even without that i =only just managed to finish on time. Im sure im going to be stuck with that walk again tomorrow.

An issue with a manager surfaced yesterday and the way it was handled was in my view bordering at the very least on B&H..... what can you do??? Seriously and genuinely felt like my job was on the line.... which is just plain crazy :(

Spent yesterday segging packets, then onto 5 hours of prepping walks . Back up to 8 hour days now and it was a bit a shock to my knee(click,click,click!) and my feet yesterday. Day off today
