Re: Halfords Cycle to Work Scheme
Hi Jayharding
Yes I got my bike back in July, a Boardman from Halfords and very happy with it. Hopefully the scheme is up and running again and I would recommend it. With the current cutbacks it might not last a lot longer.

Re: Halfords Cycle to Work Scheme
Anybody recommend this scheme?
Whats the deal with the collection/disposal at the end of the term? I was under the impression that Royal Mail let you keep the bike when you finished paying. Or do they indeed collect and dispose of it?
Cheers

Re: Halfords Cycle to Work Scheme
You pay a final payment of £35 (I think that was my final payment was) and the bike is yours. If you see a bike elsewhere that you want Halfords will source it and get it in for you, though they do charge a little bit more.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Re: Halfords Cycle to Work Scheme
RM pay nothing towards it, they let u pay for the bike out of your wages each week over 18 months,joesmyth912 wrote:what is the scheme?? do royalmail pay money towards or do you pay the bike off to them or how does it work??
u can borrow upto £500, u don't pay tax on it, so in effect, u pay less than £500 back,
i'm not sure of the exact amount you pay back, but it's a decent amount less,
i've just got my second bike through the scheme, well happy with it.

How do you go about applying for this scheme? Been on the cycle2work website and you have to get a letter for collection, what does that entail?
Cheers

Re: Halfords Cycle to Work Scheme
you should be able to apply via https://www.cycle2work.net/employees/marketing/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
the scheme has been suspended for the past few weeks, but apparently its up and running from today,
the letter of collection is basically a voucher which u redeem at any halfords,
u go in, tell them what bike u want, hand over the letter of collection, thats it.
bear in mind, when u apply for it, there is a cooling off period of a week (incase u change your mind),
so it's not a quick process.
if u can't access the web page or are stuck in anyway ;
tel: 08450 778 850 email: cycle2.work@halfords.co.uk

Re: Halfords Cycle to Work Scheme
So basically once you hand over the letter of collection and chosen the bike, Halfords do the rest? Is it that simple?BettySwollocks wrote:you should be able to apply via https://www.cycle2work.net/employees/marketing/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Halfords Cycle to Work Scheme
That bike is £467.49, thats the cheapest i've ever seen it, it's normally £550,
if u want that bike, i'd suggest u ring your local Halfords and see if they will reserve that bike for u at that price,i'm pretty sure they will.
i've done quite a bit of research, and for the money thats one of the best u can get, it's ceratinly one of the best that Halfords sell, although the http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165499" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is very good (but thats over the budget anyway)

Just one more question
I've just submitted my application online and I'm now waiting for Halfords & Royal Mail to confirm my eligibility, how long does this process usually take and how long will I have to wait for the LOC? (yeah, I know that's 2 questions....lol).
Thanks for now Betty, you've been a great help

Re: Halfords Cycle to Work Scheme
It doesn't take long to confirm wether or not u are eligible,
but as i've said, they add a week to the process just incase u change your mind, theres no getting around that (it used to be 2 weeks),
in all, i'd say u will have your wheels in 2 weeks.
I don't know where u live, but there will be "Sky rides" starting around april this year,
i've done approx' 12 during 2010, there great fun and a good way of meeting folks and getting fit, also a good way of finding good and safe routes, u also get gifts depending on how many u do.

Re: Halfords Cycle to Work Scheme
Haven't they changed the rules about the final payment ? im sure i read something a few months back that you now have to pay a percentage of what they think the bike is worth
