The story of my office this week!

Monday - All walks cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. We did Starburst style, from the vans instead to try and clear backlog of parcels and O/S packets. Only made a small dent

Tuesday - Prepped 06.00 - 08.00 then took out Mondays dly. Weather conditions freezing minus 12! Dom reminds us to take care

Wednesday - Prepped until 08.00. Meeting with Dom & H/S rep. Where are our snow spikes? Staff voice there concerns over snow and freezing ice under foot, making walking conditions dangerous. We offer to do half a delivery and clear backlog. Dom says he is under pressure from higher management to Clear and so sends us out on full delivery. But severe snow storm intervene's before we leave and all walks and van dlys cancelled.

Thursday - Prepped until 08.00. Meeting with Dom & H/S rep. Again voiced our concerns about adverse weather conditions. But now Dom under severe heavy pressure from higher management to do a full delivery. My walk takes me four hours to complete
Feel like as if I have walked double the walk! trudged around in the snow, really tired under foot. Office now severely backlogged, running out of Bags and alts fast.

Friday - Xmas Eve. As we turn in for work at 06.00, news is going around the office that a postman, slipped yesterday and smashed his kneecap on the ice. Ambulance guys that attended him had to sedate him at the side of the road, as they could not control his pain. The ambulance could not originally get down the road to him due to the snow and ice conditions. He was operated on Thursday night. Now spending his xmas in hospital and according to the Dom will be off work for at least 6 months. Don't think he will be returning to work for RM no more, with a smashed kneecap
Dom gave us the news this morning, boy was he in the s**t! Compensation claim alarm bells are already ringing. he was so pissed off with higher management, he cancelled walk dlys today due to ice conditions. We all went out on the vans instead doing starburst dly of packets and parcels. Cleared most of the packet backlog from the office as a result :Very Happy customers especially happy.

Returned to office at 13.00. Backlog of letters is massive! And so endith Xmas pressure at my office on a sad note for the postie in hospital.
This time H/S failed :evil/mad Now repurcutions about going out in adverse weather conditions will start to fly around and no one will take the blame except the Dom. Royal Mail have failed once again in not providing the correct tools to complete the job :arrrghhh
35 years on the job! I have never known it to be such a cock up as this year! weather conditions aside.
Regretfully 2011 will be RM's last call I think, what with the new walk dlys that don't seem to be working etc.
The clowns really have taken over the circus :arrrghhh

Happy Xmas to everyone & a Happy New Year :Very Happy

Pass on all our regards to the Postie,

A serious issue we all should stand our ground on. No equipment for the job - no walk!

I use to love the winter when I was a kid!

WORST CHRISTMAS EVER

We haven't even touched any letters on the IPS since Wednesday, packets, packets, packets, packets, packets, packets, that's all we've done.

There's gonna be some amount of folk on the sick next week, the whole shambles saddens me, I've never seen anything like it, absolutely disgraceful management over Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all posties evrywhere.

This sounds a carbon copy of our Barrow-in-Furness office , next week is going to be very busy . . The office would have failed even if the weather had been good . The buck stops with RM management and no one else . Revision in its current form is a total failure and I just don't know how long they can keep this bluff going . The vast majority of posties are so consciences and must feel terrible with what's left in the offices over this Xmas period . Eventually our caring will be hammered out of us and the death of this once great service will be complete .

On a brighter note , Have a good Xmas you absolute grafters .

Well we cleared the office yesterday and the area manager came in to thank us because offices nearby have loads leftover but he didn't mention the fact that he wants to collapse rounds next week to save money.

xmas eve ended up with a big bust up with my line manager and then the dom, all week i have been playing catchup as on my long weekend no mail was delivered at all, on tuesday i was told to take half the walk which was already tied up (incorrectly for a car driver), then weds did the other half, this left 2 days mail for the whole walk untouched, thursday i done the top half again which took me over my time and done packets on my way to the bus stop on the bottom half of the walk, xmas eve i had untouched bottom half left as well as 2 trays and 6 coded bundles i thrown in. Line manager was due to take me out to the walk and once he saw i was leaving the top half (lightest mail part), he threw an eppy and said if thats all ure taking then u can stay in and sort and no mail goes out, i said fair enough its your call, on ips on my own for half an hour when the dom comes up saying why aint it been cleared and explained to him the situation, he didnt believe me that the bottom half would take me to my time so i said u can come and sit in the van and watch if you like or ill put my tracker on my phone, then in their wisdom they decide that i might be able to complete a full walk that ive never done before or even know what part of the city it was in, then they scrap that idea, then he asks me can i do the top half of the walk which is lighter than the bottom - i said no probs as its far lighter than the bottom half, explained i was doing the bottom half to be fair on the customers as they had no mail for days, he ignored this fact and sent me out doing the easiest part. Obviously he must have thought i was pulling a fast 1 and left the heaviest part for some o/t obsessed freak to take the painful heavy part i had already tied up.

I cant believe how thick these managers are. it was really beyond any rational thinking to leave all the mail to keep me in to my time on sorting, then thinking they would catch me out sent me to the easiest part of my walk, the union rep was off. my hours mon-thu are 9-1pm and the planner has timed my walk as 3 hrs 20, so in 4 hrs im supposed to come in kill off the deads throw out any not done, sort packets, tie up, travel 15 mins, complete walk, pouch off. Only reason i can complete half the time is from a bit of garden hopping.

Usually on xmas we have a meal on the burger van bought for the whole office, not this year, not even a thank you or a happy xmas to any of the staff.

Managers only hear want they wany on Xmas eve where they hope magic will really happen. In my case ive been taking a steady 5.5-6 hrs a day to stumble around on the ice and snow on my hilly round. However come xmas eve when we are getting no extended OT my dom could not believe i could take so long  . No advice or support given (she could have taken the parcels off) so i told her i would be cutting the letters, which i did
