A north-east Fife mother has praised Royal Mail staff in St Andrews for going the extra mile to make her autistic son's Christmas.
Six-year-old Stewart Lennon, of Balmullo, adores his Nintendo Wii and asked for its Donkey Kong Country Returns game from Santa Claus. Mother Gayle mentioned this to her sister in Manchester and she bought the gift and sent it north by Parcelforce.
Gayle received a phone call on Tuesday from the Royal Mail depot in St Andrews and was told a parcel had turned up there.
"The parcel is the Donkey King game and I'm not clear why Parcelforce took it there and not to our home, but Royal Mail said they should send it back to Parcelforce for delivery direct to me. But they also said that if they did that, it was highly unlikely that the parcel would get to me by Christmas.
"They asked politely if the parcel was a Christmas gift, and when I said it was, they said they would give it to their postman for delivery to me or I could call at their depot to collect it myself. I thought ‘how very thoughtful of them' and I'm going to collect the parcel from the depot in St Andrews.
"They've gone to extra lengths to get this parcel to me and I can't thank them enough."
A Royal Mail spokeswoman said, "Our people are doing a fantastic job and are pulling out all the stops and doing everything humanly possible to get the mail delivered to our customers in time for Christmas."
