Magyar Posta makes dangerous wager on postal check promotion

Hungarian state postal services provider Magyar Posta Zrt is being investigated over charges of illegal gambling by tax office APEH's Gaming Board (Szerencsejáték Felügyelet) over a promotion called SzerencsCSEKK ("lucky check"). The campaign, which was launched in June and runs until the end of the year, allows participants the chance to win back the value of postal checks (sárga csekk) if they fill out and mail in a form while they are making the payment.

Before the promotion was launched, Magyar Posta informed APEH that it was going to organize a prize drawing. APEH said the reason the investigation was launched was that Magyar Posta was organizing the draw in a different way than how it originally announced and may have been violating laws on gambling.
