Tony Kearns is one of the few who has my respect at HQ.perstop tray wrote:Keep an eye on tony kearns aswell he gets £75000 salary for what?
He,more than anybody knows the precarious position the union is in and is not afraid to tell it straight.

At the moment he is mostly concerned with keeping your union from going bust.
If you want a flavour of the man read this thread.....

I think tbh who's ever in the top seats will get grief, regardless of what deal is got.
There is probably not a union anywhere where the top bods are not slagged off.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Hayes and Ward xmas holiday break
Fishtank Tony knows the issues , but so do the Dave , Billy , Andy Kerr and most of the union,
There have been many a debate and the NEC last Thursday debated and agreed that there will be a rules revison section at next years annual conference to discuss the unions structure and finances. The Postal Executive agreed the previous week not to fill the indoor secretarys offices job ( formerly Martin Collins role ) in addition to reviewing the need for an annual conference which is outdated as by the time you wait till May and June to discuss policy most things have moved on , it would be better to have more timely briefings where you can make policy.
Now with regards to the union , everyone is concerned that with a combination of pension defcit with CWU HQs pension schemes and decling membership levels due to jobs losses at the present rate of decline by 2014 the union will have 150 , 000 members down from a high in 2000 of 284 , 000.
There has to be change at CWU Headquaters in terms of the number off officers jobs and its is not just Tony Kearns who understands this issue and remember its also our union and branch"s will have a say on what changes will have to take place at CWU HQs .

The discussions seem interminable, but action?...........makes you wonder if there isn't a little spanish blood in there somewhere, because for the last few years it has been manãna.
It's a bit like, we know the elephants in the room but we'll ignore it unless it starts eating the pies and drinking the gravy.

We still await the promised economies of scale from the merger of the unions...how many years ago?dvbuk55 wrote:The discussions seem interminable, but action?...........makes you wonder if there isn't a little spanish blood in there somewhere, because for the last few years it has been manãna.

As for this much vaunted decision not to replace Martin Collins...big deal...just how much was the man on a year to make that much difference to a wage bill of over £6million and total staff costs closer to £9million.
There are too many hands on the pies DV and nobody is quite sure who belongs to those hands and what their contribution to the war effort really is.

Re: Hayes and Ward xmas holiday break
Fishtank believe me we are at one on reducing CWU HQs my belief is that there is too many officers and roles which duplicate things.
The union must decide its priorities , and that must be to have a strong independent trade union in our core industries BT and Royal Mail. We have therefore got to remove the following departments in CWU HQs and let both the Telecoms departments and postal departments take over their responsiblites , Health & Safety , Education , Equal Opps and Organising . In additon there are over savings which can be made.
A number of Branch"s are close to putting out what we want to see change and reduce the wage bill at CWU HQs. We have also got to merge the three pensions schemes to reduce the fact we are paying for three valuations and duplicating costs on 3 seperate pension schemes. The three pension schemes are the old Earling NCU scheme , the old UCW scheme which is the one in the biggest defcit and the Wimbledon scheme.
You may not realise this but we all want change the debate is whether we can agree the changes at a rules revison conference as most of the changes require rules changes.
Now those who believe that the decline in membership is down to people leaving the union in disgust over agreements is wishfull thinking each Branch and the cwu Nationally get a print out monthly of people leaving the union and the reasons ie dismissed , promoted , resigned from Royal mail , VR , retired , medical retirement , deceased , or resigned from the CWU and the figures resigning from the CWU is the same percentage it has been for the last 20 years.
The reason for the decline in membership is mail centre closures , job reductions in delivery offices leading to VRs and in BT outsorucing and closures of various offices.

Re: Hayes and Ward xmas holiday break
Which will come first I wonder..........rule changes or bankruptcy. It strikes me that the membership are paying increasing subs just to maintain the ever increasing costs of the union with little left over for actually dealing with the problems of the membership. Take the pensions as an issue, there was no fight made whatsoever to protect the members pension, despite the promise of a ballot,............but what about the employees of the union?, has their pension rights been eroded...............handsome is as handsome does..........NOT to take an ever increasing slice of the pie to maintain their own standards to the detriment of those who pay the piper.
If membership is falling so rapidly where then the much vaunted protection of full time jobs.

I would rather they work less hard and get better deal for us than work hard and got poor deal for us.
