Your employment contract is what rules here... I don't have mine to hand but I'd find it inconceivable that weather wasn't mentioned or provision made for it!Throgg wrote:Are Royal Mail exempt from employment law?Brains wrote:
Heard a rumour that if deliveries are suspended in delivery-only office you are given the options;
Go home after prep and lose half day AL, or
Get in your car a drive to nearest mail center to work your time.
If its too dangerous to deliver mail to houses near DO how can driving 5 -10-15 miles to mail center be viable ?
Even if they lay-on transport, my own personel risk assesment would say "No - Severe Weather, only travel if absolutely nessesary".
Replies before Monday morning please. Knowledge is Power.
Without wishing in anyway to sound rude but are you saying? You want to be paid to sit at home? for once RM appear to be being fair.
If you turn up for work and the building is closed or management say there is no work, for example, deliveries are suspended due to bad weather, they cannot deduct your wages, force you take a days annual leave, or clawback the time. Check the governments website for your rights!

I really can't believe you people fall for the managers lies time and time again. If you fall for this dribble then you are working for free, they can't claim clawbacks in any way shape or form. If there is work at a mail center then fine but they have to take you there and bring you back, you do not have to drive!

Employment LAW is what rules here. Your contract can not override law. All contracts are governed by emploment law.Throgg wrote:

Re: New Clawback Scam ?
I`ve looked through severe weather guidance and nowhere does it say they will increase omv use to traffic postman to different offices during severe weather. It says H&S comes first. Management go by Met Office advice ( During severe weather warnings only travel when absolutely nessassary).Stick that in you pipe.

No they don't...they go by the unagreed Severe Weather Operating Procedure.Brains wrote:I`ve looked through severe weather guidance and nowhere does it say they will increase omv use to traffic postman to different offices during severe weather. Met Office ADVICE only plays a small part in that.
If it's deemed safe to travel to another office and that's what they want then there is little you can do about it.

Re: New Clawback Scam ?
I`m going by the severe weather guide downloaded off this site. It says H&S comes first taking into account Universal Service obligations. So if RM decide to cancel deliveries then our H&S is next priority. My H&S priority is me, so when I do a H&S assessment out of the delivery office window, I decide to do no unnecessary travelling. I am not refusing to work or saying I`m going home, just working my time in my normal office. H&S comes first.

As long as you can justify that assessment then i don't think anyone can argue with you.Brains wrote:My H&S priority is me, so when I do a H&S assessment out of the delivery office window, I decide to do no unnecessary travelling.
It would have to be safe to transport you to another office...but if it was deemed safe you would have little argument.
Basically you can have your say,even make the final call if it looks dodgy....but you can't take the piss.

the rep was there he agreed to it,i must add that this applied to ppl who went home on their own accord,there was plenty of mailsort for those who stayed,so are we being mugged by management & a rep who relishes any fight with management on a daily basis?POSTMAN wrote:You've been on this site long enough to know you're being mugged,so why..........dados wrote:our clawback,come in 1 hr earlier each day until hrs owed are paid back,indoor work,fair enough

Re: New Clawback Scam ?
Employment law states what the minimum legal requirements are but your contract is what your governed by.... I'm assuming here that RM's contract of Employment for fills the minimum legal requirements. hence RM are under no obligation to pay anything other than 'Statutory sick pay' but our contract of employment provides us with a better deal i.e. 6 months full pay etc etc.Throgg wrote:Employment LAW is what rules here. Re: New Clawback Scam ?
Did you read the original post???? you prep your walk for half a days pay then your given the option go home and receive half a days pay OR get taken to a mail centre in RM time complete the rest of your day then get brought back to your office again in RM time for a FULL days pay. You seen to wrongly think that people are being sent home and claw-back being imposed.... thats clearly NOT the case!fishtank wrote:So...you agree to introduce claw back and then you turn up for work one day and Royal Mail decide to lapse your duty and send you home...unpaid.Indy wrote: Without wishing in anyway to sound rude but are you saying? The bigger picture Indy it's....bigger.
I think it perfectly fair that RM are offering an option work a full day get a full days pay work half a day get half a days pay! RM are giving people the option. Yes, I agree that it would be lovely to sit at home with the feet up and a cuppa AND get paid but in the general scheme of things RM is still a business. A know a number of people in other companies who being told not to come in and aren't being paid.

The point the original poster was making was that if it is unsafe to go out on deliveries then surely it would be unsafe to travel "5-10-15 miles" to his local mail centre therefore he would be left with no realistic option but to lose half a day of annual leave....Heard a rumour that if deliveries are suspended in delivery-only office you are given the options;

I think that each case should be determined on its merits... around here the side roads are and absolute nightmare but all the main roads are fine. If a person is totally snowed in and can't get in or can get in but there's no work and its too dangerous to get to another office/MC etc then I agree the person should be paid BUT if a reasonable option exists for that person to work then they should take it to be paid. Obviously the finer details need to be worked out but the basic concept is fine with me.
I've never seen my job at RM as being a 'them and us' situation we're all working for the same ends on the same team. Just as I expect to be treated with respect I expect to treat my manager(s) with the same in return.

Re: New Clawback Scam ?
The rampant bullying must not have reached your office yet then, I (and the rest of my office) are treated like crap by management and as a result we treat them with the contempt that they deserve (I think those in NI and Scotland understand this better than most).Indy wrote: I've never seen my job at RM as being a 'them and us' situation we're all working for the same ends on the same team.
