The fact that Royal Mail Door to Door is becoming increasingly flexible in their approach to booking and delivery deadlines is welcomed by all in the industry… most would say it’s about time.

Similarly, the increase in January to six non-competing items per week may be seen by some as further good news as it will release greater volume potential within a door drop channel that, generally, out-performs all others. However, what impact is the increase in the number of items having on response and, just as importantly, delivery efficiency?

As recently as earlier this year the limit was three items and, although this led to difficulties in securing volume in key sectors, it provided cut-through on the doormat which was lauded as a USP.

The increase to four items was always going to be welcomed (demanded by many). It succeeded in freeing volume which, in turn, led to more flexible planning. Four quickly became five and, before you know it, the item limit has doubled in less than 6 months.

This increased volume and any knock-on effect it’s having on response will affect some advertisers more than others. However, one thing is clear: it is becoming ever more important that the creative format is eye-catching and the message relevant in order to achieve doormat cut-through.

And just when you think Royal Mail are changing for the better, they shoot themselves in the foot by announcing a rate increase. In the current climate. Genius!

My bin isnt choosy. D2D may well be the way forward for RM but in this house it still gets picked up and dumped in paper bin.
If companies want to regale me with astounding prices, exclusive gifts or heavily discounted holidays that cost more than
what you would normally pay then they should address it to me personally. Even emails get dumped without getting read
as it is an assault on my senses that I dont want.

oh the joyus d2ds ...i love them ..cant wait till the volume increases to 6 ...wish it was more . .12 maybe . .we should cut out mail completely ..and just deliver thousands of lovely pizza,.sky..virgin ..farm foods ..bt ..etc .. RAM THE POST BOXES FULL TO THE BRIM WITH THEM YEAAAAAAHHHHH

why cant royal mail employ someone to just deliver door to doors 8hrs a day and let us proper postie concentrate on the real mail
