Royal Mail makes pledge to deliver all city post when next bout of snow hits

ROYAL Mail has said it is determined to make sure Lincoln's post gets through when the next bout of snow and ice hits the county.

Forecasters believe the city and surrounding area will be hit by heavy snow throughout the day on Thursday, with more cold temperatures to come heading into next week.

So, as part of a £20 million investment to deal with some of the most severe weather staff have faced in 30 years, the national mail carrier says it is to employ an extra 3,000 staff at sorting offices including the one which covers the county.

It has also pledged to put 500 more lorry drivers on the road, and send out 6,500 postmen to make deliveries in the run up to Christmas.

A spokesman for the Royal Mail in Lincolnshire, Ben Cawley, said the company would be assessing local conditions on a daily basis at the very least.

He said: "We are doing, and will continue to do, all we can to deliver to all addresses where it's possible to do so.

"Our staff in the LN postcode area delivered more than 9,000 parcels on Sunday and all our postmen and women were out on their rounds yesterday delivering to the vast majority of addresses in the area.

"We apologise to any customers affected by mail delays caused by the severe weather and can assure them that the situation is improving significantly day by day."
