Not Just Kent.
Not all limps though, we have some invisable illnesses too.

It really shouldn't be..... when we had all that snow, a week or so ago, I think it was a Thursday evening, there was a mere handful of us at work, the snow continued to get worse and there was precious little for us to do, the shift manager went home two hours early and left instructions that all AG's were to stay until the end of their shift, that would be all except one as the shift manager left with their teenage child (also an AG)... OK thats fine if they were paid accordingly, but I'm willing to bet they got paid for a whole shift, but what can I do to have that investigated? Thats just one example, I don't go for overtime myself, but there are some people who get shed loads of it even when there is a ban, no surprise they are related to managers, no problems for these people to get special leave either, but for me I got unpleasantly quizzed about needing to go to a siblings funeral. This favortism with managers towards their own family is something that really should be wiped out, and I personally think it's a real shame that anyone should just accept it as a fact of working life.... well at least one person can offer a sensible response to what is a serious question.

Why would you have it "investigated"?...what affect did it have on you personally?...you worked your hours...you got paid your hours....it is RM who are being conned, not you.

Leave it to the guys who do the overtime to sort out...if THEY feel they are being unfairly treated THEY should bring a grievance.
but for me I got unpleasantly quizzed about needing to go to a siblings funeral.
Did you raise this unpleasant treatment with anyone?
If so,was it handled in a way that made you feel you were not being treated fairly?
I am no fan of nepotism or for that matter necrophilia but sometimes all is not as it appears and perception and truth get mixed up a little.
I agree that it's disgraceful that it should be neccessary for me to accept that nepotism is just a fact of life in RM. But the problem is, that it's virtually impossible to prove. Even when it's common knowledge on the shift. Thankfully, I'm no longer on the shift where I encountered it. I've not noticed it on my current shift. But then again, I didn't expect it to happen on every shift. It depends on who the Managers are, and who they're related to, or good friends with.
Even the example you gave, of someone leaving the shift early, and allegedly begin paid for the whole shift, when no-one else was. Unless you can prove that, that person was paid for the whole shift. There's nothing you can do about it. I've come across some pretty bad examples myself. But if you can't prove it, you'll only get yourself accused of false accusations, and taken down the Conduct Code. I wouldn't reccomend trying, unless you have hard evidence. That's why I just accept it now, as an unfortunate fact of life.

If it's anything like the way my complaints were handled, of exactly the same treatment for attending relatives funerals (2 of them since I joined RM). Then nothing will have been done, apart from being made to feel even worse. I had to get the ORIGINAL Death Certificate (a copy wasn't good enough), for both of them, to show to my Manager. And one of those, was for my Mother-in-Law's Dad! Thank God she was so understanding about it! It was a horrible situation, having to go to her, and ask for the original Death Certificate, so I could prove to my Manager that her Dad was really dead! His Obituary was in the paper FFS! The Manager could have phoned the Funeral Directors, to confirm that they had him there. He could have gone to the Crematorium later, to see the plaque and flowers FFS!!!!! I'm still furious about it, and it happened nearly a decade ago!!!!!

We had a manager's son at our place, the manager used to be the DOM there so knew the ropes ect and no doubt the strings were pulled.
The son was soooooo f***ing bad he had to leave in the end,was only there for about a month.
Lke father like son me thinks.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
Happens everywhere in different degrees and almost impossible to prove and falls outside discrimination based on sex or race.
When Mail Centres or DOs merge there are always cliques and people group themselves with their former work colleagues and that is only natural. The problems occur when this effects the management structure and favouritism creeps in.
I worked at the Mount when KEB (City MC) closed and the staff moved there. My new manager was an Ex KEB man and for our group he ran 2 different P552s for overtime, one for his KEB 'buddies' and one for the rest of us. After a few months we caught sight of the KEB P552 and saw that each of the guys who had moved in were being given 4hrs/day 'pressure overtime' when the Mount guys were give nothing. When Business Development came around the KEB managers were kept in sit tu and others such as myself were moved to other mail centres.
I spent last Christmas at Greenford MC, a unit that is culturally unique. Again favouritism was a major player in the unit and even the grading of certain jobs was based on the individual rather than the actual job itself. I was totally gobsmacked to see that Christmas presents were given to the Shift Manager from staff (mainly bottles of spririt) and found this to be totally unethical.
Now that's one case of nepotism that COULD have been proved. Assuming you could get hold of a photo, or photocopy of the second sheet. Obviously it's too late now. And taking photos can land you in serious trouble, if you're caught. But photocopying, shouldn't be a problem, if you can get access to a copier (and let's face it, few of us have access to them). But if you have to resort to photos, you could always send it annonymously to a senior Manager.
On the other hand: It's still risky. And it's incredibly rare for us to find such hard evidence of it happening. Normally, it's your word against a Manager. And we all know who'd be believed!

Can this sort of thing be reported and investigated? it's notoriously difficult to prove, but it's there all right and I'm sure it goes on in other centres, it shouldn't be happening in a company of this size.
Glasgow Mail Center has its fair share of nepotism!! Or at least i think it does!? One of our newly appointent "managers" is in a relationship with the daughter (and secretary to the shift manager) of a manager and has recently returned from holiday with the said shift manager before having been appointed as a manager!
Another shift manager is in a relationship with the daughter of a manager who is also a manager!
