RM tells frustrated customers, don't try to pick up post

Royal Mail tells frustrated customers, don't try to pick up your post

THEY have been waiting for important letters and parcels for up to 12 days, as Royal Mail struggles to deliver post across the region.

Families and businesses have contacted the Mail to demand answers about postal delays caused by the snow and icy conditions.

Royal Mail officials have advised people not to go to sorting offices to collect their post, but instead to sit tight and wait for deliveries.

They told the Mail the delivery outlook was changing on an hourly basis.

But Victoria McCreath, co-owner of Go! Photo, a mobile family portrait company, in Ottringham, near Withernsea, said the situation was frustrating.

She has been told her post is being stored at nearby Patrington Post Office, but she is unable to collect it.

She said: "I realise the conditions can be a health and safety risk for postal workers and I understand why they are unable to deliver to many areas.

"However, knowing my post is a mere three miles up the road and I am unable to collect it is frustrating."

The photographer said the delay was affecting her business.

She said: "Being a mobile family portrait photographer, the weather has already caused me problems getting to all my appointments.

"The postal delay is also having an impact because I am waiting on client orders.

"This will result in me being stretched to deliver everyone's orders before Christmas, at what is an extremely busy time."

Chris Jordan and Shauna Gavin, of Kingswood, last received post on November 27.

The lack of letters has meant the couple have missed a comedy gig, are worried about meeting important financial deadlines, and are anxiously waiting for Christmas presents for their daughter Aoife, 2.

Mr Jordan, a workflow manager, said: "It's an absolute joke.

"We live in Kingswood and the conditions are snowy underfoot, as one might expect in winter.

"However, we have walked to Asda several times to do our shopping and I commute daily to Wakefield and back again, without incident.

"People of all ages are using the footpaths daily and are not coming to any harm."

Mr Jordan, 28, said he had been to the city's sorting office, in Malmo Road, but came away empty handed.

He said: "I've been to the Malmo Road sorting office to ask if I can at least be given the most important pieces of mail I know are sitting in that building, but this isn't possible I'm told.

"I know they wouldn't be able to do it for everyone, but you think they could make an exception in some cases.

"We were due to go to Manchester to see comedian Frankie Boyle on December 1 – Ticketmaster said they had posted our tickets and were unable to reprint them. We paid £60, and booked hotel accommodation."

Yes because this is exactly the same as walking about for 4+ hours with a heavy bag on your shoulder isn't it? :d'oh!

This one gets me  it sums up everybody's attitude, "I'm really bloody important, so I need to have what is mine right NOW & sod everyone else!" - sorry buster, got news for you, while it's easy to drive or walk down main roads, it is still f-ing dangerous down side roads & what would you prefer, deliveries delayed for a few more days for a thaw, or deliveries delayed for a few more weeks, after your postie goes sick with a broken leg and no one is able to cover his delivery? :hmmmm
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Mail delivery; those that can, do, those that can't, MANAGE!
