RESIDENTS have complained the Royal Mail has been far from first-class during the big freeze, with some homeowners having gone more than a week without post.
A number of homes and businesses across Burton and South Derbyshire have been frozen out by the Royal Mail, with postmen not making deliveries on frozen paths and roads.
One angry resident said: “In the DE15 postcode area we haven’t had any post for more than a week.
“There are a lot of elderly people round here waiting to collect their pensions.
“Whenever we ring the phone number to find out an update the line is constantly engaged.
“You can appreciate that weather is bad but other people have been able to get on with their normal daily business.”
Commenting on the Burton Mail website, Laura Williams added: “I have had no post whatsoever since Monday. I don’t know anyone who has not been able to work because of the snow. Schools have been open yet postal workers ‘can’t’ do their job. I’m really angry.”
According to service update on its website, the Royal Mail was expecting to make ‘most deliveries as normal’ in the Midlands region.
However, ‘local conditions may mean these may be limited or made later than normal, especially in the more rural parts’.
A Royal Mail spokesman added: “We apologise to those customers who have experienced delays to their deliveries as a result of the severe weather. We are continuing to deliver to the vast majority of addresses but, in some cases, it is not possible to do so because of the weather.
“A range of measures have been put in place to ensure deliveries reach people as quickly as possible.
“Customers who would like further information about services in their area should go to http://www.royalmail.com/service" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; updates.”
Newhall weather station recorded -8.4C yesterday morning, with commuters continuing their early morning battle with icy roads and freezing fog.
Met Office forecaster Helen Chivers said: “Overnight temperatures could be as cold as -9C, and we could see the same tonight as well.
“This will result in freezing fog patches that will struggle to clear during the day.
However, we won’t see any more snow and towards the end of the week we could see the wind blowing in from the Atlantic which will hopefully raise the temperature a couple of degrees above freezing during the day.”

everyone doing their job as normal around the Derby area are they ? So how come the bins haven't been emptied then and all refuse collections have been suspended as wagons can't get around estates and quote "rubbish is freezing inside the bins" .Not heard the great winging public moaning about their rubbish piling up !

Jeez, hardly the deep freeze overhere but the bin men and the recylcing men have'nt been seen in nearly 2 weeks. Council workers don't go out, schools are closed, non emergency ambulance service is cancelled, medical staff unable to attend pre arranged appointments etc.tomangoe wrote:everyone doing their job as normal around the Derby area are they ?
