The "How was your day" thread.

It's mental here, we've got two and a half feet of snow outside our house. I've got a feeling they'll still be wanting us to go out on delivery tomorrow. If, as I suspect, there's three days worth of mail there, I'll be taking out a row to a row and a half, and no more. There are those in our office who feel obliged to push themselves (risk themselves, one might say) to "help" clear the backlog. I am very much of the opinion that the backlog is not an issue that I need to resolve, I need only find four and a half hours' work (sans meal relief, of course) to occupy myself, and let it lie at that. There are also those, of course, who even with three days mail can complete their round in five hours, even taking into consideration the other burden that is the snow. Idiots.

Personally though, I'm not completely sure I shall be able to make it to the office tomorrow. My contingency (nearest office) came into play on Wednesday, and if I feel even slightly at risk, I shall be heading there again. I have to say I enjoyed my experience there. It's a much smaller office than mine and doesn't seem to have lost the homely spark that ought to exist in a delivery office. Everybody knew each other and there was a little bit of banter in the air. Everything felt close together, the building didn't feel white-washed, modern and sterilised. There was something local about it (something League of Gentleman-y), and I couldn't help but wish that there was an opening there. Plus, their mail volumes were nowhere near as heavy as those we're experiencing at present!

The upside of a small town delivery office in Inbred Central, I suppose!

3 words freezing, snow, packets. I basically had to take all my packets even though they have extra drivers, was taking packets that were far to big, mail wasnt to bad though.

Absolutely shocking,fell of my bike on the ice on the way to work and dislocated my shoulder....OUCH!!!

Second day running weve gone to our local Mail Centre and worked inside.
Done some local sorting breakdowns,preped todays mail in to yesterdays mail and then told to tie it up.
The local staff were given the option to go out on there walks or stay inside with us.Alot went out
We then tied up more walks,done a bit of housekeeping,then done some more local sorting breakdowns with the Xmas casuals.Left the building at 13.15.Back again tomorrow as the weather is still crap.

Day in on ot doing parcels. Started at 06.45 and finished just before 16.00. Very cold, -8 first thing. Spent the first hour jump starting 2 vans that would'nt go. Finally got out just after 08.00. Got a call to return to the office just after 10.00, as the van was needed. Got back to find that a regular driver needed to get his bags out to the postmen. Accelerater cable had broken on his van. Went out with him which took about an hour and a half. Finally got back out with parcels just before 12. Side roads were bad. Saw a few vehicles broken down around town. Started snowing again around 17.30 so looks like a bad day again tomorrow.

Absolute nightmare - roads looking a lot clearer - but pavements now worse than ever - either slushy or piled high with snow from "cleared drives" - with a subtle undercurrent of ice underneath - for the first time ever (well the 5 months I've been at it), I will be writing "Extended Delivery" on the overtime sheet (agreed with lino of course) ...

Saturday? More like a busy Wednesday but managed to get done by 1230 without cutting off. The day did not start well though. I turned up at the missort hub to be asked "What are you doing here?" This after I specifically asked my DOM if the run was still on. His excuse? He missed the conference call when the run was cancelled.

We were out on parcels. Came back and no-one had even thrown my walk in. Packets surrounding the frame, with a whole two yorks of big packets left gathering dust. I went home and forgot about it, if I turn up at 8.50 on Monday and it still hasn't been chucked in, I'll have another day in the warmth while everyone else is getting cold! Yay.

Busy. Still dodgy underfoot, although the snow seems to be going now. It's to have been a long week and I'm shattered.

Didnt deliver yesterday, officially as it was too cold slippery and dangerous, unofficially so they could get stuck in to the enormous backlog of packets. The weather situation hasnt changed except its not as cold and there we were plodding the snowy streets with a huge backlog of letters to clear. Got out earlyish but finished late, feeling pretty rotten, cold coming on.

Slaughtered a virgin goat and we all recited the Lord's Prayer backwards while a chalice of warm blood was passed around.
Out on delivery underfoot conditions were treacherous.
