Went in there this morning and done a bit of sorting(packet breakdowns). After that we all had to prep a walk and they let us go around 11.30ish. :Very Happy

Shocking conditions around the manor but was gobsmacked to see my milkman had delivered our milk in those conditions

Next to no mail in the office this morning.

Waited hours for a decision to made until the mail centre finally got it sent to us and we sorted until 1 before going home.

We just took the commercial walks close to the office between us all, we went out with 1 bundle each at 8am.

My car got stuck 3 times on the way home and my neighbour had to push me into a parking space, the main roads aren't too bad but my road is shocking (and it's a bus route but they were called off on Tuesday and haven't run since)

It's snowing heavily again now so i've got no idea if i'll be able to get in tomorrow, the big problem is my car is facing the wrong way and I can't see me being able to turn it around

On the royal mail website
"Contingency plans are in operation to keep mail moving and keep delays in and out of affected areas to an absolute minimum. We are maintaining services to customers wherever possible, however, in these difficult conditions, the safety our people is our priority."
translated in our office means ,No overtime ,not enough staff There's 12 inches of snow if we thought you could do all your delivery in your time we would make you ,so just take out what you think will take you to your time .Ive just spent 3-45 hours walking around with 2 days worth of mail now im knackered :Very Happy same again tomorrow (but im taking less) :cry

What are you doing delivering to residentials in 12" of snow? If they send you out have a quick look, sorry 'risk assessment' and send the lot back.

Who's telling porkies, our leaders or you lot?
Royal Mail said that more than 90% of postal delivery rounds went out on Thursday with the "vast majority" of branches open.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

So we finally got hit by the snow today, didn't go out on delivery because the mail arrived hours late but we prepped it and went home on our time.

Now what happens tomorrow when we get another days worth of mail to prep?

We have been prepping 2 days into the frame,tie-ing it down and then starting again.
No proper deliveries outside a few main streets since Monday so you can imagine what our D.O. looks like. :nervous

I cannot understand why you can't deliver the post that you have sorted to the rural areas that are accessable. We in the villages are managing to get in and out of the village and around the interior so why can't the postoffice????

Moan at the managers and send them emails oldandgrumpy - this is an unofficial forum for workers and in most cases where its safe most of my colleagues are indeed delivering.

Also I dont know where you live but there are some offices that have not had any mail in to be able to deliver, the mail centres themselves are experiencing problems in parts of the UK.

The mail does not magically transport itself from the Post Box into Royal Mails Vans it has to be transported over vast areas. You could be able to travel around and out of your village but could you travel 100 miles in an Artic, Van and on Foot to a Mail centre. :hmmmm

It is one thing "getting in and out"...it is quite another delivering mail for between 600-800 properties in dangerous conditions.
In some cases we can't even get out....

And in some when we get out we can't get in...

and of course there is the 3.5 to 6 hours of actually walking in the snow whilst delivering - would you be up to it.
