Word of warning apparently all areas of the UK are expecting 2 feet of snow overnight

Debatable whether they are the worst...the van is warm and you shouldn't be going anywhere risky anyway.
Also they are usually the first to be cancelled when SWOP kicks in.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Yeah but managers have to know and do something about SWOP, which aint happening here in Fife.
Even if it does kick in then rural posties will team up with town posties to clear the town but
will still have all the rural sh*t to deliver another day.

A more sensible view would to allocate 1 duty to 2 people.
The real problem with your solution is that if it's too dangerous to deliver....it's too dangerous to deliver.
It's not for us to worry about the mail in the frames.
Royal Mail are quick to draft in management when there are IA issues.
If they want to risk life and limb....let them.
If there is too much mail coming through the system...let them stop it at source and hand it back to TNT,DHL and the rest of the leeches and let them deliver it or fail.
I don't mind fighting my way through 2 feet of snow to deliver a card or a hospital appointment but i am certainly not going to do it for some DSA shoe catalogue that my customer never even ordered. :evil/mad
Why are you not a manager? Or is it because you can think outside the box that you aren't :Very Happy
I'm not a manager, managers in RM don't manage.
I think FT was being asked the question...

We got our 'spikys' the other day, they are pretty good and make walking in the snow much easier but some of the 'studs' have already fallen out of mine.

coxie wrote:At work they told us in WTL we had to go out today, after 10mins of delivering some other posties who were still at the office ring me and say they are now being kept in. The managers said if anyone goes out, it's up to them and they wont take the blame for any accidents. Fair enough so nobody went out, some of us were already out so I rang my manager and told him at the time I went out the last I heard was our DOM tell us we had to go out so if I have an accident they will be accepting liability.

The cheeky bastards

Sounds like your Dom is a typical (been made up from postie) moron.

Loads of them about. That's why RM going down the pan.

BANKING HOURS

Post by blindposty »

weve been sent home today and told that any hours unworked today will be banked and used over the rest of the week !!!!

great eh!!!--thing was it was v difficult to get in by car and the safest bit of the day would have been delivering the post in "virgin snow" which i would gladly have done for as long as i was contracted for!!

then there was the return 6 mile journey

now we will have 3 days mail to deliver lon thursday

why bother tomoz if this is how you are appreciated !!!

... would be interesting to see a thread detailing the situation - by postcode - across the country (who's delivering, who's been sent home etc) ... although I guess many peeps are "unwilling" to reveal their whereabouts

(Anyone know how OL is doing ... ?)

I would also like to see an office by office account of what happens to posties who are unable to get to work because of adverse weather conditions.
Do they get special leave paid, special leave unpaid, take annual leave, use their day off? Would be hugely influential if some staff get special leave paid
as this could lead to tribunals if others dont.

It would also be great if each office could have someone who uses this site to communicate to the rest of the staff so
that they know that they DONT have to work beyond their contracted hours later in the week just because some Dom tries to pull
a flanker and send them home early.

I would have asked what other options are available.

When they offered us that on one day last year I stayed in the office till finishing time so I had no hours to bank. I certainly would not have left the building with the only option being to bank hours as its not a Nationally Agreed Position.

I would contact your rep ADR as soon as you can.
