Lorry driver jailed for causing Margate postman's death

A Kent lorry driver has been sentenced to 10 months in prison after admitting causing death by careless driving.

Postman Mick Garner, 61, of Birds Avenue, Margate, had been cycling to work when he was struck by a heavy goods vehicle in Margate in May.

He was thrown from his bike in Marine Terrace and suffered serious head injuries, dying later in hospital.

Steven Hole, 45, of Farm Avenue, Swanley, was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court.

He was was also given a three-year driving ban and ordered to do an extended driving test.
