I would class myself as a quick postie - and I don't take any of the 'shortcuts' in this thread - I do the job properly but I naturally walk quickly.

A few years ago I tested the new walks (I volunteered) and did them at a 'normal' walking pace to an average of 3.30. At my own pace though I can do them in under 3hrs and some in a fair bit less - the posties that work at an average pace get them done within time, the slow ones sometimes go over but that's not because the walks are too long.

Don't make out that everyone who doesn't take 5hrs on a walk is doing allsorts wrong becaue it's not true. Some of the slower guys in our office never bring a packet back because they leave everyone they can't get rid of in blue bins.

Everyone works at their own pace.

Terry Butcher said:It's human nature to look after number one

No it ain't.
And you don't have to look any further than your avatar sunshine.
Did the real Terry Butcher play on with his head swathed in bandages because he was looking after no.1 or did he do it for the benefit of the team?
Do we stand on the picket line together because we are looking after no.1?
"It is human nature to look after no.1" is the default position of selfish people. It pisses me off somewhat.
I'm not selfish. I don't look after no.1. Am I not human?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

That just about sums it all up quite nicely really, yes...

It's certainly happened to me when a manager claimed the regular didn't need overtime to complete . (Failing to mention the known illegal use of their private car).

Still, as FT mentioned, people are people are most people never learn..

Not sure what you're getting at, but you sound exactly like me. I too tested the walks in our office, and I do them much quicker than 3.30 at my own pace. I don't run but I don't drag my feet either, i'm not purposely going to work slower than I want to.

And yep, some of our slowcoaches dump stuff everywhere as well, just as some of the fast and average ones do. It will all be irrelevant soon anyway, we have CDV's coming in soon and our service from the MC is so poor I can us cutting off most days.

Terry Butcher wrote:. Money rules the world, any change you see in the workplace is down to someone, somewhere trying to squeeze more and more money out of the company. Job losses, poorer working conditions etc etc happen because the fat cats want more money and make more cuts, not because Timmy can do a walk 15 minutes quicker than Tommy. The misconduct of your peers is a ready made excuse to turn to when the fat cats want more money and make a change. It's too easy.
And that my fellow posties, is exactly why we are in the sh*t - not because some guy in your office runs around and goes home early.

Strange,i'm due to have a tear up with my rep due to changes in the office, some of us have had stuff lumped on us because of the car users.
My rep is so f***ing thick he thinks that because Sid can finish in this time Sarah can do it as well, even tho Sid uses his car and Sarah doesn't.

While in part this is because like i said my rep is a muppet,if the c***s didn't use their cars........

You work it out.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

You may call it an excuse but it's inexcusable to leave your mates down that path. If it makes it 'easy' for fat cats to increase workload, why give them the bullets and gun?

That my fellow postie is the bottom of that particular line of argument!

Precisely ft. The revision was based on completely erroneous data. It was assumed that because there appeared to be slack time with people coming in early using their cars, not taking a break, nipping out to do their lapsing, humping overloaded bags; then the model week could be tailored to fit extra work.....................well has that little nugget been blown out of the water...............because joe soap is not rushing round like a twat because he's got a mate, or he's humping an HCT.................now you find people only coming in on their time and more and more doing the job as it should be done. Next week the holidays finish so there will be extra staff for a few weeks over christmas..................be interesting to see what happens. Oh and at the mo we still have a night shift starting at midnight.......that's now been running for the fourth week :hmmmm
