Re: no deliverys to day
Had a letter from Royal Mail on Friday discussing the health and safety issues with bad weather and telling us to use all of the safety gear RM provide including spikies, and to not deviate from planned route. Didnt snow Friday but today we have the snow, and guess what, no spikies available as promised. Typical RM, all talk and no delivery (excuse the pun). Would also like to know how we can meet the Specials targets of 1pm if we are not allowed to deviate off route. Yet another RM blunder. When are they going to get real and change the delivery specification for Specials in order that we are not running round like blue ass flies to get them done on time. Also today received a directive insisting on wearing cycle helmets (fair enough) but no decent head gear to wear with them to fight off the cold. Also not to cycle on roads or pathways where there was snow. In other words push the bike around, as they are unable to provide us with any more suitable equipment to use in treacherous conditions.

Re: no deliverys to day
When you get issued with a new cycle helmet in the box with it is a bag which contains instructions (lol), replacement pads for the inside, a crappy excuse for a sun visor, a waterproof cover and a thermal liner to keep your head warm. Nearly everyone throws that little bag away at my office but the thermal liner is very good at keeping your hear warm when cycling, it even covers your ears.Lincox wrote:Also today received a directive insisting on wearing cycle helmets (fair enough) but no decent head gear to wear with them to fight off the cold..

Re: no deliverys to day
Today in our office the managers had a conference call and used the hazardous weather program and that told them that - trolleys and bikes were to be banned, and also Rural driving duties were to be suspended.
We had about a centimetre of snow so it seemed very extreme and wussy. But magaement explianed that they simply wanted to restrict the accidents from last year (kudos for that) they also explained that because there was no recovery service on a saturday they had suspended the rural driving duties (kudos for that). Everybody was found alternative work, so again good.
About 20 special items were failed which is not so good, and 6 deliveries didnt make it.
The big question for me is if this action was taken for such a small amount of snow, what happens when the eventual deluge/downpour happens, it may be days or even weeks before anyone gets the mail!?

At least 10cm fell here last night on top of 5cm of frozen stuff from yesterday and it's still snowing.
Fun and games.

That was me through to Edinburgh on my day off.
That's what happens when you have to stand around waiting for Fishtank to pay back the fiver he owes you.

Re: No deliveries today
Yesterday one lorry didnt show 'til late so only about half the duties were prepped by the time it came to leave.
The walk i was due to do had less than a pouchworth of mail so i was given the one of the lapsed duties to do instead.
Hope my walk on mondays isnt one of the walks that had nowt prepped yesterday.

Re: No deliveries today
My only joy at Xmas last year was kicking the heads off the Snowmen kids had built. I was on my old walk which was a particularly affluent area and got next to no tips, thank yous or courtesy. I'm not bitter, honest
Delivery on Saturday wasn't bad in the snow, i got ambushed by some kids a few times but i hid behind some bins & cars and returned fire! At one point one of them tried to sneak up on me and i took him hostage (all in good fun, don't panic
) but the wee bugger just reached up and planted a fist full of snow right in my face
I'm only 19, still allowed to have some fun right?

You do your own risk assesssment, so if they send you out and you think it's too dangerous you don't deliver it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

You mean you were not allowed to use your common sense and do your own risk assesment on whether or not to go out on delivery.fishtank wrote:No deliveries today.![]()

How very novel of your Dom to make the decision for you.
