R.I.P. Watford Mail Centre

Its now official Watford Mail Center is closing...!!! Processing is going to the new Hemel Hempstead site, while the D.O. stays in Watford, but at a new site. I guess we all knew it was coming, but it is still a very bitter pill to swallow.
We have also been told that 300 people will have to go, eventually, ( via VR & ER ), that's across all sites involved, Watford, Hemel & Stevenage. No threat of compulsory redundancies as yet (fingers cossed).
Supposedly there were consultations between CWU & Royal Mail, but everything seems to have come out very one-sidedly (No prizes to guess wich side)

Sounds like I got exactly the same letter as you today but with the section saying Watford DO replaced with Doncaster DO. Even had the exact same prediciton of 300 job losses over time, and all the piffle about how they'd tried to listen and consult but somehow ended up doing exactly what they wanted to do all along.

heard york and bradford are going now in 2012.with processing work transfered to leeds

Teesside is also going in late 2012 to tyneside - hope there is life after Royal Mail

worst kept secret in watford......most people have known since the summer and just wanted confirmation...union may as well put up the white flag! nobody is safe.....................
