Please see below a notice which has been circulated to all MP and Lords.

The event is being organised jointly by some members of the MPs Dangerous Dogs Cross-Party Action Group (which itself was established by CWU and RSPCA) and the GLA. The event is primarily aimed at MPs, to gain support for the campaign to change the law in England and Wales. Press and Media and interested stakeholder organisations will also be in attendance. Any CWU Rep or Member wishing to attend can apply via the contact e-mail in the below notice.

NOTICE
Dangerous Dogs Parliamentary Event - House of Commons
Wednesday 15 December, 3.45 - 5pm, Attlee Suite, Portcullis House,

Angie Bray MP, Luciana Berger MP, Martin Horwood MP and Kit Malthouse AM, Deputy Mayor of London for Policing, are organising an event to highlight the increasing problem of dangerous dogs. These dogs and their irresponsible owners are a growing menace for many people across the country in terms of anti-social behaviour and other, more serious crimes.

Did you know that in London alone dangerous dogs account for:
· 1,700 dogs being seized by the Met Police in the last year;
· 700 ambulance call-outs to dog attacks;
· a 12-fold increase in dog fighting since 2004.
Plus
· Plus there are 6000 Postal Workers attacked in the UK annually
Current legislation (the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and the Dogs Act 1871) is not being used effectively and is increasingly outdated in its approach to combating the problem of dangerous dogs.
We are delighted that:
- David Grant, Head Veterinary Surgeon at the RSPCA’s Harmsworth Hospital (as featured in TV’s Animal Hospital);
- Claire Lambert, a mother whose young son was a victim of a dangerous dog attack;
- Dave Joyce from the Communication Workers Union and
- A representative from the Metropolitan Police Service’s Status Dog Unit;
are able to speak at this event.
Deputy Mayor of London for Policing Kit Malthouse will outline the GLA’s campaign and launch its community action leaflet, which is intended to be a useful tool for parliamentarians and the public.

Following these brief presentations, the floor will be opened up for a Q&A session.
Other stakeholder groups will be present and the media will be invited.
